Hi Paul,
I'm not sure I can be of much help. It's not something I've looked into recently. The last column of this table includes notes where users have requested release of the RoW information: osm.wiki/United_Kingdom_local_councils#List_of_UK_Councils
I don't know how complete/up to date it is. In particular some councils might have recently taken advantage of the new Open Government Licence to release their RoW information. I think Rob Whittaker (Rjw62 on the wiki) osm.org/user/Robert%20Whittaker might be the most knowledgeable person to contact for more information.
Kind regards,
Adam

Hi Paul,
That's great, problem solved. As a walker and off road cyclist I also share your frustration with poor RoW signposting.
Just one important point because it does apply to all kinds of copyrighted sources: One of the main reason for the existence of OSM is that anybody is allowed to freely reuse all the information we put on it (subject to a few small conditions osm.org/copyright ). The problem with using definitive map information on OSM isn't that the council would object to you or I copying a section of map for personal use, it is that they might well object to us publishing their data on OSM where that data can be freely used by anybody forever. So far only a small proportion of UK councils have been persuaded to release their information for reuse under a suitable license.
Hope that explanation helps. All the best and happy mapping :)

Hi Paul, because they are copyrighted sources we can't reuse information from the council's definitive maps unless they have explicitly allowed us to do so by releasing the information under a suitable license. What we can do is map the route that exists on the ground and the level of public rights (footpath bridleway etc.) shown on signposts/waymarks on the ground.
All the best,
Adam

Hi Peter,
Thanks for correcting these crossing tags and apologies for messing them up in the first place. I was going off some rather outdated info in the Wiki. If you notice me consistently doing anything else wrong do let me know.
Kind regards,
Adam

Hi Anthony, good to know they have implemented a route. Thanks for your swift reply. Adam

Hi Anthony.
Is NCN 62 now routed through Sollom? The last I heard the opening of the Crossens-Hutton section was on indefinite hold awaiting the proposed new bridge north of Tarleton.
Kind regards,
Adam.
