My mission

Sounds awesome! Good luck :)

Autokomanda

Wow, what an intersection :)

Rendering/Display is up to the renderer. Use layers. You can see an underlaying/underground way here:

Patna City

Hi,

Welcome to the project !!

Since you mentioned you'v just started, and obviously using Potlach for editing, I'v had a look at the area and fixed some common mistakes that Potlach generates (like not connecting ways, overlapping etc).
Feel free to let me know when you have performed more edits, and I'll go over it again with error-checking tools if you want.
Wish I had such a big city as yours to map, so I wouldn't run out of things to do at home :)

Area: osm.org/?lat=25.6019&lon=85.1767&zoom=12&layers=B000FTF

mkgmap now supports sea polygons

Finally! Will become so much easier to navigate when zoomed out...

got a etrex legend HCx from garmin! yeah!

I'v had mine for a couple of months now (+ 2GB card). Love it, and hope you'll love yours too :)

Remember to download OSM maps for it !!

First Time User Entry

Welcome to OSM :)

Just discovered "Keep right" - great error checking tool

Final linting edit by me in Horley:

osm.org/browse/changeset/2332516

Just discovered "Keep right" - great error checking tool

Most serious errors are now fixed. Several I couldn't do without local knowledge.

Please let me know if you 'get stuck' again...

Just discovered "Keep right" - great error checking tool

Loads of the errors here are hard/impossible to fix with POTLACH, but easy to fix with JOSM.
I'v done some 'linting' (fixing pure errors) now, and will do more later.

Post me if you want me to look over other areas..

Showing my girlfriend how to use OpenStreetMap

I'm pretty tech-savy, but I swore to Potlach for along time, until my lill-bro got involved and started massive linting of my work using JOSM.
I tried both JOSM and Merkaartor, but didn't get the hang of it at all until a sit-down/instruction hour with him.

So, yes.. Potlach is intuitive, JOSM is definately not.

My new GPS

Doesn't Merkaator or JOSM have functionality for this ? I was thinking about exactly the same setup today... Realtime drawing/entering data..

iPhone vs Garmin HCx

The iPhone trace mention here was recorded using MotionX-GPS. On the trace in question, the Accelerometer filter and Accuracy filter was turned on.

After a dialog with the MotionX/Fullpower staff, I now turn off the accelerometrix filter during all activities, as the only real thing it does is help with speed-calcultation while at very low speeds. The Accuracy filter is also turned off all the time, except while flying, since it's only real use is to better 'keep up' with speed-calculation and accuracy while at speeds exceeding 200km/t.

Recap: Both "A" filters off for any (by bike or car) OSM'ing..

Comin along nicely

Thanks to all :)

Before forgetting it

Is this not automatic ?

More traces...

Thats the idea, when I get to it.. There is heaps of more pressing issues (map-wise) around here.. When I started a few days ago, only highways were drawn..

Heads up about recording tracks with a Garmin Nüvi by car

Good observations Paul. It certainly make things way harder when ppl upload garbled/excessive traces...

Finally did some street naming

How do you do those nice coord's things in the diary ?

More from work

Cause I know them ? Lived in Newy for 8 years, only recently returned to Stavanger, Norway :P I didn't draw any streets, just named a couple where I'v actually had addresses in the past..

Wallsend street mapping

Hi,

U'r diary-post were randomly at the top.. I'v lived in Newcastle for 8 years, and only recently returned to Norway, where I'm currently alone at mapping my hometown of Stavanger :)
U guys have done some great work down there I must say :)
