Day 7, Exploring new tools.

Nice work Lekoro. Do you think this tool or keepright is better? What is the advantage of this one?

This is great, the big Mosquito problem does need waterways done in the greatest detail possible.

About Huts

Just to be clear here… #MapLesotho is a crowdsource, trying to build a base-map of a country out of nothing (there was nothing in 2013). Because 800 people have been involved the interpretations of the hot task instructions differ. There are thousands of errors like the ones shown. The majority of mapping in Lesotho (as shown by Martin Dittus) is done by a very consistent core of <10% of mappers… who are the backbone and consistent influences. There is a phase of work after this one which will address the problems,.. in due course. Geofabrick tools will help, of course a certain level of human intervention is needed too, and validation is what allows us find the problems like the ones above.

Absolutely every single effort to assist #MapLesotho is warmly welcomed. If mappers wish to map other than the task instructions on HOTOSM that’s cool. That principle applies to whether they want to map single noded buildings and allow others draw the building shape, or wish to start harveasting Mapillary to tag buildings. What is needed by the “use cases” developed are details of precise distances between buildings, and the promimity of these buildings to roads, rivers and powerlines.

These suggestions are seriously good ones, and thanks again for them, please help out with validating the three large tasks that remain. Please show up the problem and what you think is the solution. Main point: don’t be afraid to say what you think is efficient, but understand that others may have different priorities.

Update on Ottawa Mapping Parties to help #MapLesotho Mapathon

Really cool, your edits were quite visible after the 1st, so nice discovery for me since I got back from vacation. We (in Ireland) are gathering at the Lesotho embassy on Saturday 30th August 12-5pm for another session. Trying to figure out if we should try to finish the urban task or do something major with the rural. The rural could be cracked quickly if everyone focussed on the intricacies of mountain stream hydrology. Look out for our Australian expert on such things OSM User dallob! He’s a geological hydrologist, ..ahem… to give him his full title.

Spatially Sound - Temporally Challenged ;-)

Sure you’ll get a bit better than porridge. The event is Fingal’s first ever crowdsource and we are studying it to at least understand the trade off, open more data.. have more credibility in calling in a crowdsource.

Fingal and Lesotho

We also need to add Mohlakeng which is just to the south east of Maseru http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohlakeng,_Lesotho
