There is a progressive growth of the UniqueMappers Network Nigeria with the creation of new state chapters in various regions in Nigeria. The last state chapter that was created is the UniqueMappers Kogi in the North Central Region of Nigeria.

I am the State coordinator of UniqueMappers Kogi and by the instruction of Victor N. Sunday @ Viksun the National Coordinator of UniqueMappers Network Nigeria I created UniqueMappers Ibadan comprising of students and lecturers from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and The Polytechnic Ibadan yesterday been 19th May 2020.

I created a WhatsApp group for training and coordination of UniqueMappers Ibadan. The members of the UniqueMappers Ibadan are enthusiastic with openstreet mapping/open data acquisition, ready to sign up with Openstreetmap (@ osm.org) and to receive trainings as OSMites.

We look forward to mobilizing more volunteers (youths, men and woman) who are enthusiastic of volunteering to add buildings and roads on Openstreetmap in Ibadan to join the UniqueMappers Ibadan in other to strengthen the State Chapter and enhance the activities of the openstreet community in the city of Ibadan. For each of the institution we will also train and affiliate them to YouthMappers as we grow and mentor them.

We look forward that this new team of UniqueMappers would be engaged with mapping task to tackle #COVID19 in Nigeria while the lockdown last.

TRAININGS: I received several trainings on open street mapping and GIS at large especially via webinars mostly organized by Victor N. Sunday the National Coordinator UniqueMappers OSM Nigeria. OSM GEOWEEK: I organized a training session at the Nigeria national youth service commission’s orientation camp Asaya Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State Nigeria handled by Geoffrey Kateregga.
NEW CHAPTER CREATION: UniqueMappersTeam Kogi a state chapter of UniqueMappersTeam Nigeria created as a result of the training session handled by Geoffrey Kateregga at the Nigeria national youth service commission’s orientation camp Asaya.
SOTM SUMMIT: I got partial scholarship from HOT to attend the HOT summit at Germany but I couldn’t obtain my Visa as result of the scholarship coming so close to the date of the summit. SOTM AFRICA: I got scholarship to attend SOTM Africa 2019 at Grand Bassam, Ivory Coast. I also attended Understanding Risk conference organized by World Bank in collaboration with OSM Africa for SOTM Africa 2019. UniqueMappersTeam: We had community training relevant to the growth and expansion of OpenStreetMap Nigeria community hosted by Victor N. Sunday the National Coordinator UniqueMappers OSM Nigeria.

I became a member of the OSM community in 2016. I was introduced to HOT and it’s activities the same year.

HOT is an international non govermental and humanitarian organization dedicated to reaching and assisting everyone in the globe despite their location through mapping and humanitarian activities. HOT ensures openness, transparency and discipline in carrying out it’s activities

HOT is also committed to making impact locally through local mapping of various communities by it’s members and as well as reaching out to places with disasters such as floods by creating tasks which the members of the community can map and such mapping sessions are well validated.

I appreciate the HOT management for the opportunity to be nominated as a voting member. I hope to grow the activities of HOT/OSM in my country and beyond if elected a voting member and as well participate more effectively in HOT activities.
