51949080 | over 7 years ago | Hi Batareikin, with a big changeset such as this, it would be helpful if you gave more detail on what aspects of the nodes you were changing. The changeset already lists what nodes were changed, but there's no clue as to the motivation for the change, or whether it was tags or positions that were changed. Thx! |
43431439 | over 7 years ago | This is immensely helpful, gonna get integrated to getthere.ie |
26725086 | over 7 years ago | Any further history on this downgrade, i.e. why they were classified as hamlets in the first place, and what criteria we should be using to reclassify as hamlet and/or what the policy is for locality vs. hamlet vs. village in Ireland? With thanks! |
40050683 | over 7 years ago | Have reverted some of this in osm.org/changeset/57766281
|
57764525 | over 7 years ago | ... so have added a custom railway=transfer_station instead to encapsulate this meaning. Can't find any similar entities with a taginfo search. |
56881490 | over 7 years ago | Disregard; have removed that photo from that wikipedia article as was likely copy pasted. Think the node is accurate enough for the village based on wp discussion of Saint Peter's church |
56881490 | over 7 years ago | Hmmm, looking at photo on the wikipedia article, can see it's actually of some shops in what OSM has as Ballincollig:

54549808 | over 7 years ago | Should that note be removed now that humans have reviewed the place??
|
54549808 | over 7 years ago | Thanks, probably in the back of my mind knew that the tags came from some sort of erroneous an automatic import (GNS data). Thanks for alleviating my concerns :D |
52627674 | almost 8 years ago | Thanks, the double border meant the county couldn't be imported as a polygon using osm2pgsql, but really that tool should be more robust. |
52627674 | almost 8 years ago | Hi Gary, not seeing the fix, maybe not saved yet? |
52627674 | almost 8 years ago | Not sure if this was the change, but now there are 2 double boundaries for Down:

38084314 | almost 9 years ago | Tags should have been modified on this to indicate disuse instead of deleting the node entirely. E.g. 'operator:1989-2016'->'Infratil Airports Europe' etc.
|
35339802 | almost 9 years ago | Do you remember why you classified this as place=hamlet in this changeset as well as amenity=university ?
|
41355215 | almost 9 years ago | Thanks, didn't realize that about the wikipedia links - have removed the incorrect one I added. |
35598985 | almost 9 years ago | https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambuslang still has it further south; osm.org/?mlat=55.81&mlon=-4.16&zoom=12#map=13/55.8264/-4.1612

38863130 | almost 9 years ago | Assigning the village to the residential way (179607036) rather than the node (30691896) implies that e.g. the 'Ship Inn' is not in the village. I think if we are using ways for villages/towns, they should enclose the entirety of the village (I personally prefer nodes for villages/towns as there is usually not a strict delineation about what is inside/outside a village). |
39622488 | about 9 years ago | I'm not suggesting a relation to join geographically remote campuses; the `operator=University of Nottingham` tag already does this effectively. |
39622488 | about 9 years ago | > Whatever else, just locally changing some blobs in the hospital area inconsistently with the rest is surely the worst possible answer. Yes! This is the problem! I was only examining a local area without knowledge of how the wider Cambridge area is currently tagged, and I made changes consistent with how universities are tagged in the rest of the UK. Future mappers will surely do the same, so lets change it to be consistent with the rest of the UK and move on! |
39622488 | about 9 years ago | A good rule of thumb about 'what is a university' i.e. what should be tagged with `amenity=university` would be to look at the list of campuses/sites/colleges at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Cambridge
