Owego & Harford Railway

This railroad no longer exists between Owego to Candor and to Ithaca. It is the former Delaware Lackawana and Western Railroad it crossed the Susquehanna River with a curved bridge as you will notice on the map. Route 17 Interstate 86 was built on some of the old road bed going to B inghamton I believe at any rate the rail road is defunct from Owego at the Susquehanna River(there used to be a rail bride across the river, all the way to Ithaca NY where they had sloped inclined plane to traverse the hill ....

Elm Street ends right past house number 20. The old road was abandoned and is now private property.

The following are the reasons for the need to change GPS directions for tractor trailers going to the Gros Boulevard Business Park:
1. Tractor Trailers driving Main Road and Pine Grove road in East Herkimer are in violation of local traffic laws prohibiting their use of these roads. These roads are well signed prohibiting their use.
2. Tractor Trailers would also be in violation of local traffic law prohibiting a (no left turn) left turn at the intersection of Pine Grove Road and Gros Boulevard when heading north on Pine grove.
3. Tractor Trailers would also be in violation of local traffic law prohibiting a (no left turn) left turn at the intersection of Gros Boulevard and Pine Grove Road when heading East on Gros Boulevard.
4. Public Safety Risk: GPS Directions using East Herkimer Streets such as Main road and Pine Grove Road are in a densely residential area with Roads not having sidewalks. The use of Tractor trailers on these roads put pedestrians and vehicles at an increased risk for a tragic accident.
5. The streets in East Herkimer were not constructed for Tractor Trailer use. Use by Tractor Trailers will increase deterioration of Eat Herkimer Roads. These roads are narrow and are not meant for the turning radius required by tractor trailers.
6. The intended rout for Tractor Trailers and Heavy traffic to the East Herkimer Business Park is Rt-5 to Gros Boulevard. The Town of Herkimer and Herkimer County constructed this rout years ago for the purpose of keeping Commercial traffic off of residential roads in East Herkimer.
