Riverine Street has been closed at this point to prevent traffic having to merge at an acute angle where it meets Nicholson Street at its eastern end.

This is a permanent thing that is fairly recent and requires traffic to enter Nicholson Street at 90 degrees which is seen as much safer, hence the reason for the road closure.
