About me
I am Ludwig Alvarado Becerra (you can call me Lud), a double degree student in Systems Engineering and Data Science from the University of Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano, currently living in Colombia, Bogotá. I like computers, free software movement, mathematics, science, and all technology and data stuff.
My history with OSM
My interest in mapping activities start around early 2024, where I discovered Bogotá Free Software community in something called Latin American Free Software Installation Festival, FLISoL (Festival Latinoaméricano de Instalación de Software Libre), because I’m a Linux promoter and Free Software lover, Andrés Gomez (very well known in Colombian community) told me about OpenStreetMap (I’ve never heard about it) and he said all the details that a map can contain… And best of all… It’s free (as in freedom)! So after a few meetings, I decided to map all of my college and start contributing to OpenStreetMap. I was fascinated about how much it changed (See here), and then fell in love with OpenStreetMap.
What have I done?
First, in February 2024, I created a Free Software collective at my university called GNUTADEO where I aim to promote the Free Software movement, our principal contributions are in OpenStreetMap and let other students know about GNU/Linux (many people made the transition to a Free operating system), I really like doing some impact at my college and people like it.
After some time, I meet Sebas, and he told me about YouthMappers and that I can create something called “chapter”, so… I did it and created TadeoMappers where things start to get interesting with mapping.
During my high school years, I’ve participated in a group called “ecochatarreros” where we did extracurricular activities around the campus, focusing on technology and biodiversity. I was once visiting my school and spoke a little bit with my ex-physics professor, he invited me to do some workshops with the actual participants of ecochatarreros, I told him about the OpenStreetMap initiative and started mapping trees! After a while, we mapped ~200 trees, and we will continue with it. This project is helped with my great friend Carlitos, and my lovely girlfriend Sofi (I love you) without their help this project could not be possible.
I am substitute legal representative of the Association of Collaborative Cartography of Colombia (Asociación de Cartografía Colaborativa de Colombia) - AC3, and also one of the founder members.
That was a little bit about me, I’m 19 years old and exciting to learn new things in OpenStreetMap and all of their community, just like Newton said “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.”
