MapperMondo's Diary

Recent diary entries

Along with neatening up a few paths and roads this week I’ve also been scouring the southern and central parts of Milton Keynes to find pedestrian and cycle paths that have been omitted. Milton Keynes was a city designed around the motor car (it was probably the first British post-war new town to consider the two car family as the norm) and its impact as a replacement for many as mass transport and how to segregate the vehicles from pedestrians and cyclists. As a result the number of footpaths and cycleways across the urban environment is probably on the same scale as the road network. A lot of these have been captured but as another OSM contributor commented to me, it would be good to see OSM as a resource that is the first to truly reflect all the pathways available around MK.

Milton Keynes and Bletchley

Posted by MapperMondo on 7 September 2012 in English.

New to Openstreetmap and have been looking at areas close to home. Have spent the last week revisiting areas of Milton Keynes to update for recent building work and to tidy some of the previous mapping. I’ve also reviewed the railways around Bletchley and Milton Keynes Central to include all tracks and sidings. Some areas hadn’t been labelled so these have been included too. Will spend the weekend out and about checking up on areas like Central Bletchley where a new housing estate has been built around the old leisure centre complex.
