Retired Exploration geologist currently mapping in area I grew up: NE PA and Southern Tier of NY
Lived lots of places, but moved back to my hometown in Pennsylvania.
There’s a lot of similarities with interpreting various image layers for Openstreetmap and what I did for over 20 years as an exploration geologist. I interpreted a variety of different data types including remote sensing, 3D seismic, and occasionally aerial imagery. Like aerial imagery, these data sets are just a representation of the Earth and are not an exact replication of reality and require a bit of interpretation to map features of the earth from a remote location.
I know enough about GIS systems to be dangerous, but I do NOT directly import GIS data to OSM. I use it as a reference or alternative view.
I’m always open to feedback as I’m still learning the OSM conventions. Constructive feedback is welcome.
I tend to map in spurts, usually tied to the local seasons here. In the summer, I’m usually out working in my flower gardens.
