Large amount of coastline added by user who has not agreed to the new license - what to do? | The situation in Seattle is mentioned on the talk-us mailing list. There’s a proposal to replace this part of the coast with Canadian GeoBase data. |
What's the oddest thing you found while mapping or aerial tracing ? *Tin foil hat alert* | I once saw a fairly large roller coaster in someone’s backyard, somewhere in western Hamilton County. Corn mazes are always a pleasant surprise while mapping exurban Ohio. |
Big Baseball Project Results | If not for this contest, the entire cities of Sidney, Piqua, and Troy in Ohio would’ve remained a barren wasteland of TIGER ways. Hooray for big mapping contests! |
Potlatch 2 save button moved to opposite side of page---ugh. Please change it back... | The warning about lost changes is actually a feature of Potlatch. Webpages have to opt into that dialog. |

Inactive users | Perhaps they think registering will unlock more features like directions. Instead, they get the edit tab. :-) |
New Byers Road | Thanks for taking the time to keep that part of the map updated! |
Tags I wished had more official subcategories | I’ve been tagging fraternal lodges with amenity=social_club. There’s also amenity=public_hall, amenity=social_centre, and building=hall for similar facilities. |
buildings disapear at different zooms | Perhaps the tiles haven’t finished rendering yet, or you need to clear your browser’s cache (Shift+Reload or Ctrl+Refresh). |

how to map usage of university buildings | building=yes
New imagery? | Also, if you don’t mind eyeballing it a bit, it looks like the USGS produced Digital Map–Beta imagery of Illinois last year. |
University campus/buildings? | For individual off-campus buildings, setting “building” to “yes” and “operator” to “Kansas State University” should suffice. |
Open street map is different with Google Map | It’s not shifted everywhere, but where are you looking? Perhaps with the right tools someone can fix it quickly. |
We're making a map here | As a point of comparison, Google Maps now has parcel data in much of the U.S. Maps aren’t just for streets these days. But out of curiosity, what type of data are you protesting against? |

How to tag marina pontoons | How about |
Frustration | Each of CloudMade’s custom stylesheets applies globally, just like the stylesheet OSM uses. So it’s not as though CloudMade can render one part of the world using one stylesheet and automatically switch to something else. Perhaps OSM could render three versions of every tile (sparse, medium, and dense population) and offer a stylesheet chooser, but I think just that would require lots more resources. |
House tracing is hard work | Wouldn’t it be great if there were a Magic Wand tool in Potlatch, with a tolerance setting, like the one in Photoshop or the GIMP? Then you could just click on a bright spot and Potlatch would find the building’s sides. One can dream… |
Why are some people lazy? | How about spelling out “YAHOO!’S WRONG” using a series of tagless POIs? |
new renderings in Mapnik | You can subscribe to this feed, which notifies you whenever the map’s stylesheet is changed. Even if you can’t read XML, you can see the specific tags and values being used by the renderer. I suppose this feed isn’t well-publicized because it would definitely lead to “tagging for the renderer”, but I use it to prioritize when mapping. |
Hydrographic Data | Well a presenter at the State of the Map conference also said it’s public domain. You’re probably right, but you know how OSM likes to be extra sure about copyright. |
