Same in France. Roundabouts belongs to all related routes and then, have either all references or none. For simplicity, we choosed ‘none’ as we consider a roundabound as an inflated intersection node (and you don’t ask the question when the intersection is a node). We also try to follow the KISS principle about relations and create them only when we have no alternatives. Unfortunately, some people tend to use relations to make their software applications/visualisations easier. And delegates the difficulties of creating and maintaining relations to the crowd.

For all crying about incorrect mapping, when we represent the road with a simple thin line, it’s also a simplification of the real world and is also “geometrically” incorrect. So either draw everything as polygons or accept that some of the representations in OSM are simplified. Here the OP says that the landuse is at one meter from the centre line of the road, which is also probably incorrect (suggesting that the road is 2m wide, includ. shoulders). Even worst, the road is converted from a GPS trace and is overlapping some of the landuse because the second contributor did not conflate his data with the existing ones. So for all people stoping the landuse few metres before the highway centre line, I would ask them to draw the road polygons as well (there is a tag for that, check the wiki). If you want to be accurate, do it everywhere.

If I remember correctly, it is possible to fix all duplicates in one click with JOSM. Once the validator has been called, select the “duplicated” elements from the validator panel and right click to “merge” them (or something like that) from there.

You post your request on the wrong site. OpenStreetMap is the geographic database used by many applications for navigation, rendering or whatever. If your application “Navigator Maps” is not updated, contact the “Navigator Maps” support service. When you come here, it is to check and eventually fix issues on the source data. We are not responsible for what is done with the data later in third party applications.

Les limites communales ne sont pas visibles sur le terrain. Alors qu’elles ont un intérêt évident pour la géolocalisation (insinuant “pour le grand nombre d’utilisateurs”). Mais jusqu’où aller dans l’ajout de limites administratives lorsque certains ajoutent les limites des cantons ou les limites des “quartiers” ou les IRIS de l’INSEE ? Ou que certains veulent mettre les “bureaux de vote” et leurs zones de couverture ? On voit que ces limites sont toutes “administratives” alors qu’elles ne présentent aucun intérêt pour la géolocalisation. Pourtant elles présentent un intérêt suffisant pour que certains contributeurs s’y attèlent (sans visibilité depuis le terrain).

Il faut sortir de ses habitudes franco-françaises et donc de la classification IGN. Les tags OSM sont utilisés et exploités dans le monde entier. Il faut à tout prix chercher à converver une cohérence la plus internationale possible au projet (pour permettre leur exploitation à des niveaux supra-nationaux). C’est pourquoi la traduction du wiki sur les highway ou les tagging guidelines sont souvent le résultat d’âpres discussions pour chercher le meilleur compromis entre définitions internationales en anglais et correspondances possibles aux niveaux nationaux Vouloir imposer ou récupérer la classification IGN briserait ce fragile équilibre. Regarde dans la campagne allemande où les “highway=track” + “surface=paved” ou “asphalt” est asez courant pour comprendre ce que j’avance. La classe “unclassified” n’est pas adapté aux chemins d’exploitations forestiers ou agricoles. Soit le wiki est trop rigoureux, soit il est ambigu. Difficile d’être les deux à la fois ;-)

Si chacun se lance dans sa propre interprétation des tags, cela va nuire au projet parce que les données ne seront plus interprétables. Il faut s’en tenir à ce qui est documenté sur le wiki. Si celui-ci souffre de lacunes, il faut alors chercher un consensus pour améliorer le wiki, pas faire son propre dictionnaire dans son coin. Faire sa propre interprétation des tags est une perte de temps, 1. pour ceux qui, plus-tard, modiifieront les tags mal utilisés, 2. pour celui qui aura mal utilisé les tags parce qu’ils seront tôt ou tard remplacés par ce qui fait consensus.

Well.. The 100+ messages in the ML showed that the enforced ‘common sense rules’ was not that common. And it’s not including the 200+ messages exchanged on the French lists and forums. A rule is easy to impose when you can provide valuable arguments. But the DWG and others FAILED to explain that the separate account was the only solution for (limited) bulk imports (excepted that in was half admitted between the lines that it was mainly an additional barrier against imports in general).

But we will not rewrite the story here. It will remain the biggest failure to understand each other, between the French community (as a whole) and some key administrators of OSM. One message I retained from that time is from Alan Millar: “If you are outside France, shut up and let them do their thing.”
