New project: Red Rose Transit lines (Lancaster, PA)

Posted by Roadsguy on 12 November 2017 in English. Last updated on 20 November 2017.

With the completion of my mapping improvements along US 20 for ProjectPA, I’m taking a break from that to focus instead on adding the various RRTA (Red Rose Transit Authority) lines in Lancaster, PA. More info on these lines can be found at redrosetransit.com. Much like ProjectPA, I’ll go through the lines one by one, starting at Route 1, Park City A Southeast, and finishing with MU Park City Xpress.

Completed lines:

  • [1] Park City A Southeast
  • [2] Park City B 6th Ward
Location: Central Business District, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States

ProjectPA Redux

Posted by Roadsguy on 18 October 2016 in English. Last updated on 5 April 2018.

As of yesterday I’ve decided to restart my attempts to improve the mapping of every route in Pennsylvania one by one, from US 1 to PA 999, plus bannered routes and major old alignments, as well as unnumbered routes like the Harrisburg Airport Connector and the Central Scranton Expressway.

So far I’ve completed every numbered route up to and including US 22.

Here’s an example of the sort of sloppy TIGER mapping that gets fixed: ProjectPA - Before and After

Project PA (old post)

Occasionally, rather than make random fixes to problems I see, I’ll use pahighways.com/state to go down signed route numbers (including US and Interstate routes) to “fix” them. For example:

PA 1 - decommissioned; replaced by US 1 - SR 0001 is applied to US 1

So, I do US 1 within the PA state line. Another example:

PA 43 - partly PA Turnpike 43 (SR 7043)

So I do PA Turnpike 43, and the short piece signed as PA 43 (aka the “Demonstration Project”)

This also includes smoothing curves, fixing alignments, immediate vicinity errors on other roads, and of course TIGER and Created By tags.

At least I think that’s what the “diary” is for. :P

EDIT: List of routes affected:

-US 1: SR 0001 (in progress)
