About Me: Data Processing/IT guy, software designer for web browser based applications using open source tools, small business, worked in local government in a number of different jobs, then went into private business. Ex-mapping/GIS guy, mostly in client services (spent lots of time on the road working with clients and potential clients all over through the ‘flyover’ states).

Why Am I Doing This: Mapping has been a highly proprietary marketplace - and extremely expensive (see some current GIS vendors and their licensing policies). I had high hopes for both Google Maps/Earth, and then Apple Maps (and they’re good, no doubt), but both are now going into ‘monitizing’ their work, and I’m sick and tired of dealing with all the toll collectors. So OpenStreetMap looks pretty good to me.
