Map making (?) in SP | The level of data and the freedom of tags is some of what makes OSM so great. Thanks for helping out here in Brazil |
|
Time problems | I am of course trying to combine it, but that is not easy. Will probably be better with time. |
|
AltitudeWRTSeaLevel vs. reality | You can callibrate altitude in most advanced handheld units, but mark that Geoid altitude and reality differs around the planet, +/- 60 meter AFAIK. |
|
Showing my girlfriend how to use OpenStreetMap | I wonder when I can get my wife to open her eyes for OSM, up to now she have been more yelling at me for "spending too much time on that stupid map", and "you will never make money on that" or other arguments of the same sort. |
|
Pram mount for GPS | Congratulations, I have had the same idea, but uneven cobblestone is not very pram friendly, my son is now over 1 year old, so he can soon be walking with me, that gives me the opertunity to take paper notes while walking. Started to take notes on some of the asphalt paved roads though |

a | How come some people have a constant urge to tag everything? Isn't it possible to leave small specs of white on the map? Besides, the area around the church probably have some other purposes than one would expect of amenity=place_of_worship, so if tagged it should be of the other purposes, park, garden, meadow, common, cemitary, estate, parking lot, all of these are much more accurate than place_of-worship, unless prayer or messes regularly take place there as well. |

My new GPS | Going to make my own navigator device as well, doesn't hurt to combine forces :D |
|
LOL | Remember to follow the high water line - Good initiative, no doubt it will be more accurate than most of the data imports, try to export the idea to other countries as well. |

GPS System Could Fail Next Year? | All the news flashes about future GPS failures are a cry for money of two reasons. GPS are pushed by alternative DPS systems such as Galileo and GLONAS, and solar-flare activity are close to peak, which seriously reduces the countability of satelite-based systems. IMO, producers of units, both handheld and larger should include support for multiple systems as well as alternative augmentation systems, such as IALA. A unit that uses several systems will have a higher possition accuracy than a unit relying on only one system, whether it is GPS, Galileo, GLONAS, or anything else. |

Amsterdan! Here we come! | Parabens, achou vc vai representar tudo nos que fazer obras aqui no Brasil. |

Sharpening the pen and limping a sheet of paper | it have different names in different countries, maybe you will call it speed camera? automated traffic enforcement? |
|
Sharpening the pen and limping a sheet of paper | I don't think there exists any cycle parkings in Guarapari, if I ever find one, I'll make sure to enter it into OSM.

gps accuracy dropping from here on out? | I have no fear that one selective system, whether GPS, GLONAS, the upcoming Galileo, or any other high-accuracy system will fail entirely, as there are a growing number of such systems. What is more worrying is that cosmic interference will render all satellite systems (including SBAS corrections) useless without anybody noticing. Backup correction systems such as IALA and HF/MF RTCM corrections should be more available for both small units and car navigation units, as these can discover athmospheric disturbances and transmit corrections to the units in order to either reject unhealthy satellites or correct the error that occures. The systems I use actively at work are often dual system DPS units (They avoid calling it GPS as some of this units actually do not use GPS at all) with up to 8 different independent correction systems.

Renting a car again | My wife does not agree in that department, when I stroll off some unknown road, or experiment a different route, than I am spending fuel for nothing, or are putting us all in danger, or we are getting lost. That I can backtrack us on the GPS, or actually arrive safely at destination is not a valid argument. Hope it get better when I can install a street navigator with OSM maps in our (future) car so that she can see with her own eyes the benefit of the surveyed data. |

Andando a pé pelas redondezas com papel e lápis na mão | Que chave voce usar para marcar edificio's e casas? Não sei como vai marcar endrecos ainda. |
|
Why Not? | One of the reasons that I want to make a new program is to build something from scratch, besides I have little experience in Java development, and therefor have little to input into JOSM. I must use the languages I master and the tools I have available before venturing into other languages, though I might stumble over things I can offer to the existing programs as patches. |

Santa Mariana, Paraná, Brazil | Great, going back to ES on Sunday, at the moment working in Niteroi. Register on the Wiki and the mailing list, help the community grow. |
|
Why Not? | Unfortunately I had to restrict edits to registered users only, administrating my wiki to keep away all the spam and false edits became a full time job, and since I am administrating it alone it becomes too much work. I'd like to have time to do OSM also :D

Santa Mariana, Paraná, Brazil | I am glad to see more people helping out, Brazil is a big 'place', and it will take a lot of work getting every place on the map. I am mostly mapping in Espírito Santo. |

Using N95 as a tracker | Thanks for the advice, I have been looking for some useful way to track and route with my N95 since my eTrex doesn't support maps. |
