Wouldn't

building=yes
building:levels=xx (number of floors)
landuse=residential

imply exactly the same thing?

Someone has vandalized OSM

Probably not vandalized but rather a dumb mistake looks like a few of roads were dragged over a few hundred feet to the west

An elitist view towards mapping in the age of the internet.

Good thing I don't live in Florida, because I guess a broke a law, decided to clean up a bit of the area near the state capital. The streets are aligned pretty well just added some detail.

Road Weary

I'd probably use reg_name for state highways, loc_name for county highways. Or of course name if it only has one name.

ref would be its normal number, use nat_, reg_, loc_ when it may have two or more a good example would be an Interstate that is also a US Route...

Fictitious examples
name=Interstate 12
ref=I 12
alt_name=United States Route 82 (possibly nat_name might be better)
alt_ref=US 82

name=Bob's Road
ref=GA 123
loc_name=County Highway 12

More Newbie Road Madness

In this case I might label it as...
highway=service
service=driveway

Other service tags; parking_aisle, alley

How do I make buildings, parking lots, etc.?

Another useful site is this wikipedia page, it has the official names for various state highways;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbered_highways_in_the_United_States#State_highways_and_other_similar_systems

FYI: the official names for interstates and US Highways are ...
Interstate XX
Business Loop XXX
Business Spur XXX
United States Route XX

Pleasure Me Online:

Yah spam

You'd think they would at least add their shop to the map, put in a phone and website tags there are tags for this thing already...
shop=erotic

VFR aviation map

I'd say keep the runways as one segment, some good ideas...

aeroway=runway

ref=runway numbers 06/24
surface=paved(if unsure of asphalt,concrete),grass,gravel
maxwidth=
end of each runway ele= is a good idea
the wiki page says length, but really this can be easily calculated from the co-ordinates for the starting and ending nodes.

areoway=taxiway

Taxiways have one track for the same taxiway
ref=, surface=, maxwidth= tags

aeroway=aerodrome
On the airport itself use the iata= icao= codes

Gold Croft CGHS Apartment Flat Dwarka

If you're going to leave spam, could you at LEAST map your area, put in the building names and addresses? Instead of taking from a community you can actually ADD to it.

Here Be Dragons

You might want to use the construction tags...

highway=construction
construction=residential (tertiary, secondary...)

If there are barriers for example
barrier=gate
barrier=blocks

And of course if its not open yet use the access tag
access=no

When 'connectivity fixes' aren't fixes.

layer= can help too, 0 is inferred and does not need to specified

0 ground
1 bridge
2 bridge on top of another bridge (freeway interchange for example)
-1 tunnel

Project of the Week: Turn restrictions (my comment)

Before you add a turn restriction, you should consider using oneway=yes 1st. In those cases no restrictions are needed.

Mapping large circular features

The Potlatch algoritm does a certain number of default nodes for a circle, you can add more nodes and will smooth the circle out a bit more. Of course your's is somewhat eggshaped so Potlatch wouldn't exactly fit your problme.

pondering import of wind farms

You'd use the following for each turbine;

power=generator
power_source=wind

Hotel or Restaurant - which order?

A map is a representation of reality the reality is the hotel is in one spot the restaurant is in another. The typical hotel has a restaurant so perhaps label the building as a hotel.

I'd treat this similar to a shopping mall, draw the building, then place a point for the restaurant at the appropriate spot, in a mall I'd do points for the anchor stores and food courts.

Helipads. Useful for EMS Pilots

I added some information I found on 2NY5, however it looks like there is another ground helipad by Wilmott Cancer Center, I couldn't find out any information about that one though or the Geneva Hospital one though.

War Memorials, Best Way to get a sane trace

Road name ... name=
Road number ... ref=
As for speed use maxspeed= if in the USA (or other imperial measurements use xx mph), in metric countries 100 km/h would be maxspeed=100

You pretty much have to split a highway when the maxspeed changes, or lanes= changes or at bridges. Note ground is layer 0 not 1, tunnels are -1, a simple bridge is at layer 1

As well in the USA according to US DOT and ASHTO Interstates are named
Interstate XX, US highways are United States Route XX

BrettKP you might want to check out

It allows you to manually choose which tiles to update.

Blocked roads?

Oh I hope there are plans to restore the roadway, I can't imagine the Bailey bridges lasting forever. But the state of California has some severe budget issues so it might not be very high on the state's budget process to remove quite a few tons of rock then put up some huge concrete retaining wall to prevent similar slides in the future. I'd debating on the construction part myself, maybe access=no or access=private might be more appropriate.

I did update it to disused=yes, access=no, but I do hope Caltrans gets off their butts and restore one of the key access points to most beautiful spot in the world (to me) Yosemite National Park.

Blocked roads?

Koniosis, I ran into something similar on the Yosemite Highway 140, a landslide covered the road and it is "temporarily" rerouted to the other side of the river (its been 3 years now)...

In this case it is metal chain link fence with gates, so in my case this was applicable.
barrier=gate

In your case this might be the closest for the mounds
barrier=block
