The Temecula Mapper

## Temecula’s OpenStreetMapper

Check it out: Temecula, CA USA

Welcome to Temecula, California. This Inland Empire Southern California city is well known for its climate, hot-air balloons, numerous golf courses, popular wineries within the eastern countryside, an active historic downtown, and gateway to “Little Las Vegas” and the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians. Nearby to Temecula are destinations like the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve, Palomar Observatory, Palomar Mountain State Park, the Galway Downs racetrack, and several lakes.

This active suburban city is located between the eastern Los Angeles basin and San Diego along the I-15 Freeway corridor. My contributions to OSM of the Temecula Valley area is done mainly through local knowledge of the city, tracing the Bing imagery combined with surveying and recording raw data on paper while riding the roads, and researching public records.

I also visit all kinds of spots outside of town (e.g. Orange and San Diego County) for all sorts of reasons and record and add data to the map whenever I can.

What’s New:

## The latest mapping projects in the region * Lake Skinner County Recreation Area - Home of the annual Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival, this lakeside recreational park was detailed-surveyed during a recent summer family outing.

Checking out Temecula:

## Points of Interest in or around the city * Aerosports Trampoline Park - Indoor mapping: While the kids were jumping around having fun, took a moment and mapped the entire public interior of the trampoline park using a pen and paper and using the interior support beam pillars, entrance door location, and windows combined with the exterior Bing imagery of the building layout as simple measuring tools. First public map of this local entertainment destination! * Harveston - Detail-mapping the entire subdivision complete with the individual neighborhoods and park amenities. * Old Town - Rich in history, this is Temecula’s landmark tourist stop with numerous shops and restaurants. * Mulligan Family Fun Center - Situated in the city next door in Murrieta, Temecula Valley’s local family fun center is detailed-mapped.

Recent Out-of Town Visits:

## Documenting some of my stopovers when traveling * San Ysidro Border Crossing Area - Documenting the numerous features, shops, transit and parking amenities at the busiest land border crossing in the world. * Yosemite National Park - Video survey of the Yosemite Lodge area with visits to the Yosemite and Bridal Veil Falls beginner trails and vistas. * Fontana DMV area - Was conducting some private business in this area and found the Fontana DMV office. Photo surveyed and detailed-mapped the area’s features.
