Déplacement sur Maré

Wonderful! I visited Nouvelle Caledonie in 1978 but missed any of the islands. I see you have lots to map to the north.

The roads with two names

When I find something like this I email the local council and ask for the correct name, explain that I want it for OpenStreetMap, and provide a link to the place in question.
I've always received polite replies.

Garmin update.

Assuming you can't record a GPS track but have internet access you can use walking-papers.org to make paper maps on which to write additions and corrections, and post or scan and send these in. You can also use http://openstreetbugs.appspot.com/ to mark items which need 'fixing'.

US Highway 169 Updates Tonight

Rather than 2 GPS receivers, I'd advise trips at different times of the day to take advantage of the various arrangements of satellites as the day passes.

Multi Tagging

The ABS data is a lot better than landsat tracing or other imports eg vmap for the places like the Murrumbidgee and Lachlan. I haven't used ABS data for roads.

East Limerick

Does the Nokia phone have a camera? I photograph POIs at walking place and georeference the photos, then open it all in JOSM to add the POIs

GPSMap 76CSx

I hope that you enjoy using your new hardware. As an owner of garmin and i-blue hardware, as well as a freerunner, I have chosen to use the i-blue for gps logging because it is more accurate than the garmin.
I couldn't quickly find which chip was in the garmin you have just bought, but it will do fun things like display OSM maps so you know where you have and haven't been.

Nambour Mapping Party

That's really impressive work.

St Albans/Hatfield cycling stuff

Could you just nick round to this point osm.org/go/euvjchuJ
where a lot of street is called Maryland, and although I lived there over 40 years ago, it doesn't actually fit with my recall of the area.
Of course St Albans also seems to have moved much closer, as has Welwyn Garden....

Archeological Site map for Prizren/ Kosovo

X=4673762, Y=7478858, Z=426 m
has been resolved to 4,673,762m north of equator, 21,142m west of the 21st meridian and 426 metres above an unknown point

JOSM and Pen Tablet

There is one developer thinking about reworking the lakewalker plugin to follow the colour green.

how did you find this?

US Army Corps of Engineers map of Kosovo 1959!

I've put a formal request on legal_talk for a ruling.
Don't we want a sheet further east too?

An OSM GPS?

I thought you were on the talk mailing list which did discuss this
http://www.mail-archive.com/talk%40openstreetmap.org/msg18147.html
referring to
http://www.gedanken.demon.co.uk/gps-sd-logger/
On talk_au we have tried a few cheap gps data loggers bought via ebay, and quality is good. We haven't seen second hand ones going cheap, but that would be one option for you.

Wikipedia extract

I've had private conversations with Mike.
Just to make it clear, this is not for import into the main OSM map, this is for informing mappers in Kosovo what may exist on the ground. If you checked the google map of Prishtina you would see that it is hopeless, so don't imagine anything will be copied from there.

A Tidy up and more back roads

I'm not aware of any scripts doing this. I've converted the last in my area into nice 12 point roundabouts - I draw one and then copy and paste in JOSM, which incidentally reversed the direction of the way.

Starting Mapping

You need some GPS traces to be sure that the Yahoo imagery is correctly aligned. I'd suggest doing the same short route three times on different days to get good position data. "basic GPS" doesn't matter.
I don't know if you have high-resolution or low-resolution Yahoo imagery for your area - low resolution is not very useful for mapping.

Showing my girlfriend how to use OpenStreetMap

this page belongs (or hides) under the Tips for Aussies section
osm.wiki/Using_JOSM
It's a selection of tips from our mailing list
Should this be expanded and linked to from the main JOSM page?

Leaving unfinished streets

I ride with sealant in my tyres. So I've done about 3 years since I had a puncture at about 5000km per annum.
Here we have nasty thorns which give you multiple punctures - that's why I fill my tyres with sealant.
Increases rolling resistance, but cuts down the time fixing tubes.
