London Cycle Challenge

Posted by geoweald on 6 June 2010 in English.

I have been out over the last few days with the objective of logging some miles for the London Cycle challenge, rather than mapping, though a few minor detours to collect some missing road names. However I have been a 'customer' of OSM, especially with regard the Colne Valley Cycle route. My aim was to pick up the route from Dalton Way in Watford and head south to Harefield but I missed the almost hidden 'start'. However I found it using the mobile app MapDroyd populated with OSM data and showing the cycle route. This came into its own again when the signposts for the route had been turned.

Bank Holiday Weekend

Posted by geoweald on 26 May 2008 in English.

I am currently staring out of the window looking at the teeming rain resigned to the fact that I will not get out on the bike today. However the weekend started well and I managed to get out on foot and record some more footpaths in the Bushey / Oxhey area. Yesterday afternoon during a break in the weather I got out on the bike to record 40 or so names for roads already mapped in the Harrow Weald / Belmont area including a few amenities such as post boxes, bus stops etc. Right, enough staring out of the window, I'm going to venture out to get a newspaper and record at least a couple of bus stops and a chemist on the way!

About time

Posted by geoweald on 26 October 2007 in English.

I thought it was about time I made a diary entry having started mapping back in April. My mapping is done with a Garmin Venture Cx mostly by bicycle, though also by foot and occasionally car. Most of my mapping has focussed on North west London / Hertfordshire borders with occasional excursions in the Midlands and North West Scotland. I have noticed a recent increase in the use of Yahoo imagery for mapping which led me to find the positive statements made about its use on the Wiki. I have therefore started to add some features using this imagery including parks and car parks. I entered the source for each of these features as 'Yahoo_imagery' though I am not certain that this is the correct procedure?
