Argeltown is now also in openstreetmap

It was tagged as :
place = imaginary_village

Also,I added the sunken city of Chthulu as well. Should I remove them all? All marked as imaginary.

opensteetmap in the news, 30th october

I mean real discussions about uganda :
One such good idea has been happening in Uganda: Using OpenStreetMap mapping to help with rural development projects. Robert Soden of US communications firm Development Seed has been working with some development groups working in Bigoda, a small Ugandan village, who are now using OpenStreetMap and Quantum GIS to map out the village.

not this :

# "Ugandan discussions", or a variation thereof, is often used as a euphemism for illicit sex, usually while carrying out a supposedly official duty. The term originally refers to an incident at a party hosted by journalist Neal Ascherson and his first wife, at which fellow journalist Mary Kenny had a "meaningful confrontation" with a former cabinet minister in the government of Milton Obote, later alleging that they were "upstairs discussing Uganda". The poet James Fenton apparently coined the term.[1] The saying is often wrongly attributed to the antics of a female Cabinet minister in Idi Amin's government, who was caught having sex in a public lavatory at Heathrow Airport. The euphemism is spread further, for example, before his marriage a senior member of the Royal family allegedly went on holiday with an ageing ex-Page Three girl, whereupon Private Eye reported he had contracted a "Ugandan virus". In 1996, "Getting Back to Basics" was suggested as a replacement euphemism after the notoriously hypocritical policy of the same name adopted by John Major's government.

Idea: export the entire data storage of openstreetmap osm into wikipedia on git. Use cached rendered pages checked in. all layers generated by local layers from json data.

I am thinking of local servers, layers of them working together to map the world.
each local team would have its own central server that is pulled from bigger and bigger servers until we get the central one.
the local servers could run a database and gui instance, and have the rendering tools.
git allows the raw data to be stored, and stores only unique ones.
if you put the small enough files of data on there, only the unique ones will be stored, nodes and ways as files for example.

No spam, listen.

let me explain myself. I am thinking about a distributed git repository for openstreetmap.

Imagine you would get all your data needed via git, and would communicate with others via commits to git.

this would be distributed to other people.

even tiles would be rendered and checked in, maybe to a different area but with the same naming scheme.

you wont need a central database, you could add the names to a central index file that is also in git. So basically you would get away from a central database and import and export.

The other tools could be made to run off of these static pages by embedding code/data in the page that would be executed/evaluated when needed.

this would work via richer clients and allow mapping to be done by a peer to peer sharing load sharing system.

Archive.org test

All of those kosovo photos I took with no gps. I covered every intersection without break. I hope to reconstruct the map from them.
I think that we need tools to to mapping without gps.
my motto: you dont need a gps, you need a brain.

Archive.org test

Thanks John,
But if I knew the lat long the I would not have to upload them for review.
I would like to work my way through these pictures and place them on the map.
I guess when I have the positions I can upload them to openstreetview.
thanks,
mike

Monopoly City Streets hall of shame

Well It is obviously impossible to do this.
Monopoly wrote the game, so it is thier fail.

Archive.org test

Thanks,
I uploaded a pict there. We will see what happens.

The first version of the openstreetmap to blender results are checked in! nice!

My original goal is an old idea I had to make openarena/quake games with my home town street.

We could make a movie with the changes as they happen.
We could replace josm with blender and python.
We could add in a later for inkscape.
we could render photorealistic maps.

I have moved the code http://bazaar.launchpad.net/%7Ekosova/%2Bjunk/openstreetmapkosova/annotate/head%3A/kmz_ImportWithMesh.py?sort=date
into bazzar to get rid of the frankophone names so I can start to understand it.

Hopefullly when I have reversed engineered this code we can start integrating the python plugins into blender.

with blender you can create movies etc.

OpenStreetmap Mapping party for Pirates in offenbach

The pirates are in theory supporters of FLOSS and open knowledge,
so they should also in theory support OSM.
I went to the pirate party meeting to talk to them and some showed interest.
so that is the idea. To get the pirates to use OSM.
all else are invited of course.
