140285944 | almost 2 years ago | Figuring out if a trail is a good fit can be pretty subjective. For example—I ride a CRF250L in Chiang Mai, and I find this specific one trail easy, even when it's wet. Most trails get tougher when it's rainy season, so it's not that helpful for folks. Just imagine if most tracks got tagged this way; the map would be a total puzzle! :) In general, description tag is the right place to warn users, and name is intended only for official purposes. FYI, It's considered poor practice to use the wrong tags with the intention of making them appear on renderers: osm.wiki/Tagging_for_the_renderer |
140656772 | almost 2 years ago | Ok. I'd love to see a new icon for vending machine fuel too. However, to make this happen, we'll need to go through a process with OsmAnd. First, we should seek general community agreement on this matter. Based on earlier investigations and discussions, it appears that the "amenity=vending_machine + vending=fuel" tag combination is primarily intended for detailed mapping of individual fuel pumps within a fuel station (amenity=fuel): osm.wiki/Tag:amenity%3Dfuel OSM is all about community involvement, and with so many different renderers out there, we can't just create our own tag system and tweak data to make it look perfect on our favorite renderer. 😊 |
140285944 | almost 2 years ago | Thank you for your contributions! I want to mention that I've removed the name tag because it should only be reserved for official purposes and shouldn't be used for descriptive names.

140498897 | almost 2 years ago | Hi pLoskutov, in our Thailand wiki, unclassified roads are typically designated for important through-traffic routes, especially those leading to official settlements. However, this road appears to be primarily serving a farm estate, so it might be more appropriate to classify it as 'service' or 'track.' For additional information, please see: osm.wiki/WikiProject_Thailand#Urban_and_Local_Road_wide_enough_for_motor_cars

140656772 | almost 2 years ago | Hey pLoskutov, could you please avoid putting test data into OpenStreetMap and delete any made-up stuff? It's important to maintain the accuracy and reliability of the map for all users. Thanks!

139591518 | about 2 years ago | Hi djmorkman, I understand one segment connection was wrong but why deleting everything else ? There is clearly a parking within the property: https://www.google.com/maps/@18.8090352,98.9666035,3a,75y,352.93h,69.45t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sk1b4gcslTm1pcdvoA4Vr5g!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu

139229519 | about 2 years ago | Thank you for providing the answers and explanations. While I agree with you on the first examples ("I parked here," "My home"), I still don't understand why any inputs with the tags "tourism=viewpoint" or "tourism=camp_site" would be considered "spam." To my understanding, "spam" refers to the addition of irrelevant, misleading, or inappropriate data to the map. However, using these specific tags seems legitimate as they are commonly used to mark points of interest like scenic viewpoints and camping sites, which can be valuable information for map users. If this decision is specific to a particular country, I respect that. But rather than reverting entire changesets across multiple countries, it might be more beneficial to leave such decisions to be addressed by the mapping communities in the respective regions. From my experience, contributions made through maps.me in Thailand have been valuable as they serve as helpful pointers for other mappers and provide an incentive to explore and improve the maps. |

139229519 | about 2 years ago | Hey BaghdadiMapper, I'd appreciate it if you could explain why you are removing what appears to be valid contributions from Maps.me in your country and abroad. I haven't noticed any spam in those changes you removed. I've encountered a similar situation with another mapper from Iraq (138107559). Is Maps.me banned in your country? I'm just trying to understand the issue here. Thanks! |
