Philippines armchair mapping

> Maybe we should sit in the pub and map the Philippines

Yes please do! We need more people helping out.

A lot of new contributors in the Philippines

I use the same approach, observe if the new mapper comes back. If he/she continues to contribute, that's when I send messages mostly with this content:

1. commending his/her contributions in the specific
2. provide a few tips
3. extend a helping hand (you can ask me)
4. direct them to join the mailinglist

I've observed that most newbies use potlatch so sending them a message via osm website would be the best approach. What I want is to encourage them to join the mailinglist since most Ph discussion happen in the list.

A lot of new contributors in the Philippines

You got the idea :). Since nobody took on the welcoming committee proposal, I decided to just do the invites via diary postings.

Let's see how this goes. But a more organized effort should be better.

Romblon Map Update

Great work! This area needs a lot of love. If you have questions, just ask me. Or better you can subscribe to the osm philippines mailing list

Palawan Philippines - from Puerto Princessa to Elnido

OK then, we have very rough coverage of Cebu at the moment. I added a lot of POIS around the city (mostly banks, fuel, restaurants), from a GPS given by a freind. Hope you can improve the position and streets. If you have questions, just holler at our very own OSM-PH mailinglist http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph

Palawan Philippines - from Puerto Princessa to Elnido

totor,

I just saw your edits today. Nice! Welcome to openstreetmap philippine community. I hope you continue editing palawan (not just roads, but also other coastlines, POIs, etc.). Palawan needs a lot of osm love.

We're Back!

Alright! Just added my new changeset via potlatch and now josm.
I miss the josm progress bar message adding every node and way. :)

I am now a "classic" OpenStreetMapper

To cut on gas expenses, I suggest you try biking ;)

Random pub meet-up Liverpool Street

> We discussed some evidence of copyrighted data appearing in OSM, and what action should be taken (rather urgently)

We are also seeing "copyrighted data" around here (Philipines) as well.

I hope this could be sorted out both at the international and local level, without resorting to eit wars.

Tracking and problems along the way

I also experienced the same problem (not raining though). Try to restart the unit and it should be OK.

And be careful biking in the rain ;)

GPS Tracks worked!

Also add the tag "ph_gpstogo" in your traces. This way we can easily monitor the use of the units.

MotorwayCheck

Can we use it for the Philippines?

Two new OSM city maps with geotagged photos at flickr

Flickr needs to add Metro Manila Philippines as well. Road data of yahoo! is so poor here: http://www.flickr.com/map?&fLat=14.5792&fLon=121.0054&zl=5

But the current number of geotagged pictures are a lot (54,669)

Serendra building footprints

Very nice! Complex, multi-polygons.

Metro Manila Philippines needs some OSM love Part 2

Gregory,

Thank you very much. You are correct I can't use JOSM with yahoo! imagery as well. Let's hope the plugin gets fixed soon. In the meantime, please continue adding roads in Metro Manila. We have local mappers who can continue your work. From experience, we get local contributions when there are existing data they can start with.

The difficulty of mapping out San Pablo City

Ian,

I have a pending request with the gpstogo program which I plan to loan to Pinoy mappers. I hope it gets granted by the OSM foundation soon. I can lend you my GPS if you want. Being so busy these days I can't do much mapping in the field, plus the fact that I believe I have covered most of the streets within my biking distance.

Let me know if your interested.

Yes! Right on!

Re-mapping San Pablo City

Right! I did some import of data in Laguna sometime ago from government data, which I hope somebody would further edit. Thanks to you! Please edit them as you please. AFAIK there are no Yahoo! coverage in San Pablo. If you can coordinate with the local government, maybe we can request them to donate data for OSM. Much like what we did with Naga City. Great work by the way!

Who is mapping nearby?

I cannot seem to get it working as a script in bash

jklinc POIs for Metro Manila

Done!
