Dear user trondaks: user norgis is correct. Neither you nor whoever created the trail have authority over whether or not it is recorded in OSM; if the trail exists then it can and should be recorded in OSM. Even if the trail were on private land or not allowed to use for some other reason (which is apparently not the case here) we would not delete it but instead mark the usage restrictions with appropriate tags.
