Today I did the section between the railway line, the A563 ringroad, Gipsy Lane, and to the east the Victoria Road East Extension. The latter opened in 2005 and is only just starting to show in webmapping, despite being a major link road and forming part of the primary A6030.

Tomorrow I think I'll do the area west of the railway line, forming a link to the already-complete area in Belgrave.

Hmmm, what can I say, I was a truck driver that did not like getting lost. I got myself a laptop and Delorme Street Atlas 2003. Originally I had no intention of logging GPS tracks, I just wanted to get from point A to B without getting lost. The more I read about the software I was using the more I learned. Later I found out about the logging files and archived them just in case I might need them. With a background in Delphi programming I later started developing a software for truck drivers. Now I am looking at developing a plug-in similar to GPSDrive for my own software. With price of GeoData and GIS tools the way they are, it makes it hard for a independent developer, who is funding all of his projects, to get anything accomplished in a timely manner.

[Resolved] Georgian is not rendered correctly (using potlatch; I saw it with Batumi /

May be Abkhaz will not get rendered correctly too: the "ҟ" in name|ab = Аҟəа for Sukhumi in potlatch displayed as a rectangle.

14.5 miles of bicycle riding in West Humberstone and Northfields means that I've done all the roads in that area. This is much flatter ground than the areas I did before, hence the improved progress. Have to come back at some point to get all the footpaths I didn't get this time.

This marks the completion of a continuous region from the railway line in the west to the city border and open countryside in the east.

Tuli ajeltua loput tiet Voutilan tai kansankielellä Nummen alueesta. Kaikki Loimalahdentien varren ajettavat tiet on piirretty Kolkanmäentien risteykseen.

Yesterday I did a fair chunk of Humberstone and today I did a little corner of Evington around the Waitrose that hadn't been done.

Most of today's mapping was tracing National Cycle Network route 63. We drove out eastwards to get it as far to the outskirts of Oakham, where we unfortunately lost it. Luckily, #osm was able to provide photographic evidence of its course within Oakham, courtesy of the Rutland Mapping Weekend. Later, I cycled along its course west along the former Leicester and Swannington Railway, and then as far as the Groby Road Roundabout.

On the way to Oakham, we also found where the 64 and the National Byway share part of route 63 for a while - between Goadby (where they come from the south) and Knossington (where they go off again to the west).

I used to live just off what turns out to be the B170, in Belfast. So I've made sure it's mapped from start to end. It starts as the Belmont Road, from the bottom where it meets the Holywood Road, continues up past the roundabout, and up over the Craigantlet Hills, where it becomes the Ballymiscaw Road. Somewhere along that stretch it changes from being in Belfast City Council to Castlereagh: both have the road 'finishing' at that point, so from a purely administrative POV, the "direction" of the road changes at that point. I've reflected this by splitting the road at the closest point to where I can remember the council signs being. If this causes a problem in rendering, someone can always unify things.

(As an aside: we don't seem to have boundary information for the 26 councils in Northern Ireland yet. The plans to replace these with 7 "super councils" seem to have been mostly abandoned, and the current divisions are likely to be in place for at least another 3 years, so it might be worthwhile trying to source this information.)

The route then continues to the end, goes down a portion of Whinney Hill, and then the full length of the Craigantlet Road (which later becomes the Ballysallagh Road) until it meets the A2 Belfast-Bangor road.

Most of the Craigantlet/Ballysallagh Road was missing, so I filled it in, and also added a few of the connecting roads down from it into Newtownards.

I'm slowly getting the major roads of South Eastern Victoria (Australia) added to the OSM network. The mapping is slowing down as the distances from home to unmapped area's (and fuel prices) get higher so I've started adding lakes and rivers from LanSat imagery over the last several weeks. I still have more minor roads in the area to add and will do these as time & opportunity arise.

Regards
Mike.

Hi!

I've heard of OpenStreetMap just one or two weeks ago. This is what I was looking for some years ago, but didn't find it back then.

Mainly I'm interested in writing Software which operates on GIS-Data, I haven't the time to do this right now.

But I had some GPX-Tracks which I recorded with my Sony Erricson V600i some months ago, and used them to map parts of my home town Wernigerode. It's kind of addictive.
