I dont know if microsoft has any influence with the rapid editor or if its solely a meta project, but work on detecting already-covered addresses would be great. something like “if a poi or building with this address already exists within 50m then dont offer it for users to confirm” for the US national address database and others.

i like ai for recognizing things and having users check/add info. for instance mapwithai makes adding detached buildings that arent covered by trees much faster and it isnt any slower to add buildings that mapwithai misses or gets wrong. sign detection isnt a bad idea although in my opinion it should ve used for detecting possible missed signs in an area and never trusted to find everything. i could see more ai detection being included in apps like streetcomplete or everydoor asking users to confirm that something exists and have seen a request for it in streetcomplete that was denied because at the time there was no way to reposition pois, hopefully they explore it again now.

Do we know anything about who’s leaving the notes and what they’re about? If it’s just ordinary people leaving notes to try and correct the map or add things then it could be a good opportunity to get people into mapping. If it’s mappers themselves then we may want to point it out with the Iranian community in case some of its mappers need some guidance. If it’s spam or non-osm related then maybe making notes harder to add would be a good idea but that should be a last resort.
