Changeset When Comment

Hi! Is the end of Morris Road actually known as "Dead end" or is it just a dead end? If the latter, maybe noexit=yes (if you can't even walk beyond it) or/and some kind of barrier, instead of the name on the end node?

I think I've fixed it (changeset 113307438) but it was more complicated than I expected! When I had previously tried to improve this location from survey, I hadn't realised what a mess of landuse boundaries was there - you were doing good work to help sort it out.

Hello again... I've now taken a closer look at the changeset and I see that the errors I noticed are the exceptions to sensible rationalisations you made. As a local I will fix the things I complained about. Best wishes!

Hi! Can I suggest that you reconsider "smoothing"? Looking at just a small part of this changset that I know very well, it alters the boundary of the Paddock recreation ground to run through a house (Way: 446007915), and duplicates a gate (your Node: 9207230377, previously at the boundary of the footway and the landuse perimeter, now left meaningless Node: 4868153837). I appreciate that simplification can be useful, but in this locality the changeset is un-doing careful mapping based on personal survey. Thanks!

Sorry - as a local I removed the Hamsey node before I noticed this discussion. "Removing recent node "name=Hamsey, note=Manor" which must be a mistake. Imagery shows no building here, and Hamsey (Hamlet) and Hamsey Manor (building) are both already mapped nearby." But I wouldn't want to be discouraging to a new contributor!

As a local, I can tell you for sure that the natural=peak node you added in Lewes (node 7037229669) should not be there. For your first changeset, you have made a large number of changes over a huge area - are you sure you know about all these things better than locals? I would suggest starting on a modest scale mapping things you know from your own experience. I would hate to put you off from contributing, I'm just trying to help! All the best.

Sorry - the hashtags on this changeset are there in error: if anyone can delete them then please do!

Hi! I hope you don't mind, but I've taken the liberty of undeleting way 165397800, so it's back to your edit of March 29, 2017. I hope this helps. A.

I sent you a message on openstreetmap.org, but now I notice that you're using JOSM so you might not see it. Here it is:

Hi! I notice that you deleted Way: 165397800 (the path towards Mount Caburn from Lewes Golf Clubhouse) as part of Changeset #60476616.three days ago.

I've walked this path many times and it's a well-marked route that makes sense of other paths that are still on the map. I'm guessing this was an error? Especially as you edited the tags on way 34598863 which makes no sense after the deletion. (I'm just an minor OSM editor myself, not "the authorities"! I use the "achavi" tool to monitor changes to the map near me in case I can help.)

I see that you yourself adjusted the tags on this path a year ago, so forgive me if this is a "work in progress." But it can be a problem to leave OSM incorrect for days - e.g. the Android OsmAnd project provides monthly updates of the map and it causes no end of confusion when the snapshot catches an incomplete edit that is being done as multiple changesets.

Let me know if I can help! All the best, Adrian.
