Late comment – you've probably been using this a lot by now. I just wanted to advise you that it will take some time before you work out the most effective way(s) to use the eTrex H. Expect to make methodological mistakes. Keep tweaking your process as you learn more about your device. You probably won't make mistakes in your mapping so much, you just might miss stuff or do things inefficiently. This can all be fixed, even if not by you.

Good luck!

Thanks! I tested it today and found it quite easy to use. Even Data-Transfer via home-made-data-cable ( http://www.jens-seiler.de/etrex/datacable.html ) worked fine :-)
For next step I'll try some editors...

I have one too and just want to make you aware of some nasty thing:
If you set the logging "wrap when full" to "no" it will set disable logging once the memory is full. If you then empty it, you will have to manually enable logging again. (Or something like that.) I once had a 3 hour trip for nothing (well, except fresh air and fun) because of this. :)

Apart from that, I love it! Enjoy!

Nice cable! That expensive little requirement was the sting in the tail of my purchase. I'd like to see a direct USB connector if that's possible.

It is possible: I found a very simple solution in the forum of that site:
