Merkaartor has always been able to split a road AFAIR. You sometimes need to select the road in addition to the node though.

As much as I love Merkaartor, if you find yourself adding lots of new nodes to existing ways in order to smooth them, try a recent JOSM version instead. It has "virtual vertices" that allow you to grab and drag the "x" in the middle of a way segment and makes it a new node automatically.

walky: In Merkaartor, you use Node > Merge (Alt+M).

I think tourism=guest_house would fit quite nicely.

When you go a way twice, you will get two ways, not one, but that's not a bad thing as the others have said. If you don't have the time to properly tag your ways, you could still help naming streets etc. by using http://openstreetbugs.appspot.com/

The huge bus is a known and now fixed problem, should be gone soon.

Ich verstehe das anders. Man darf die Daten nicht extrahieren/abfragen/usw., aber sie haben nichts dagegen, dass man die Rasterdaten nochmal neu abzeichnet.
Nochmal genauer nachzufragen ist aber sicher angeraten.

Make sure you have EGNOS enabled in the settings. High variance in altitude on the other hand is to be expected (although +-10m is quite good).

Die Bezeichnungen S92/S97/S98 usw. sollen ohnehin nur in ref= auftauchen, so dass name= frei gewesen sein muesste, oder?

This is probably when you have the Yahoo map enabled, right? The developers know about it, it's hopefully fixed soon.

Right now, osmarender doesn't show the forest at all, while it's great in Mapnik.

Brian: AFAIK the agreement is so that it's not allowed to cache the images permanently. That's the reason the YWMS plugin for JOSM is working like it is. And forbid... they just need to change the license and include a little sentence I would guess.
