Changeset When Comment

Hi HaoYue, welcome to OpenStreetMap editing. I wonder, was this part of a university assignment?

I have reviewed your changes. I can see that all of the features you have created already existed on the map. I have reverted your changes. Please take care not to duplicate features which already exist.

Thanks

Welcome to OSM editing. Unfortunately the quality of this changeset was not great - many accidental changes, and re-mapping of existing features. I have reverted it with changeset 133771437

I don't think it really matters - but technically Glenvar Road damage was from the January 27 flooding

Thanks for taking the time, I appreciate it. I think in the case of Ponsonby (like many suburbs) it's impossible to pinpoint a single perceived centre - and I accept people are likely to differ on this - but I do think that the location over the community centre building at 20 Ponsonby Terrace provides a nice balance representing the centre of "Ponsonby the residential suburb to the west of Ponsonby Rd, north of Richmond Rd", and "Ponsonby the retail/commercial strip along Ponsonby Road". And it does help it's the location of the Ponsonby Community Centre building.

So yes I will move it back there now, but I will try stop considering geographical centres and cartographic labelling when working with place nodes - I appreciate the logic for using perceived centres as best practice.

Cheers

Hey StenSoft, this location for the Ponsonby place node feels awkward - it's too close to the boundary with Freemans Bay and St Marys (based on post codes/ FENZ localities/local knowledge). Do you mind if I move it back to its previous location south-west over the top of the community centre? That's also closer to the NZGB location for Ponsonby.

Wiki suggests using place=locality when there's no feature to be tagged. I think in this case it makes sense to add this name to the landuse=retail around the shops. osm.org/way/116434887

Thanks for adding the name. You have adjusted the geometry to old imagery (see Bing for the recent aerial - it is a construction area)

Nice - I have made some further edits in this block, including fixing the residential area which was tagged as a building: https://osmcha.org/changesets/132781435

Hi Deishelon welcome to OpenStreetMap thanks for contributing. You've requested a review of this changeset so I have taken a look. It's a good effort but there are some issues: You updated the construction area (WAY: 912218908) to a building=residential. It should instead be landuse=residential, and it does not require a layer tag. You have drawn approximate outlines of the buildings, and added appropriate tags - nice. However, you will be able to trace them more accurately if you switch to the 'Bing' imagery - it is more recent you can see the buildings to trace them more closely. Try not to connect them to the roads. Cheers

Te Araroa Trail is captured as a route relation, because it encompasses many different features. It should not be put in the name field of individual features.

See the relevant route relation here: osm.org/relation/9581607

Thanks for your edit, looks good. I have two suggestions: 1: Switch to the Bing Imagery when editing in Auckland, because it is more recent (you will notice a new building for the Childcare centre). 2: instead of amenity=childcare, probably amenity=kindergarten is more suitable. You can read the OSMwiki entries for more detail on the differences.

Hi 99 welcome to OSM editing and thanks for your contributions! One tip when drawing buildings: to get nice square angles you can use the keyboard shortcut 'Q' which will snap the corners to 90 degrees. Cheers

Have you tried clearing this up with Auckland Council? It will most likely be incorrect in their data, which is then the source for LINZ and other maps.

Hi Alwyn can you please direct to the discussion you mention, I can not find it. It is unclear from your changeset comment what you are achieving by undoing the detailed mapping of landuse areas along road corridors. Especially if you plan to continue these mass modifications this will need further discussion in a forum

Hi pitscheplatsch,
Yes this user has been importing buildings en-masse directly, outside of the documented RapiD import. See my comment on the changeset here: osm.org/changeset/113376212

Noticed today that pedestrian access has been closed again.. I guess this will be intermittently opened/closed, so will leave it mapped as it is.

Hi Incongitionz, welcome to OpenStreetMap and thanks for your contributions tracing new houses - looking good! Two tips: you can use the Q shortcut when you have a building selected, to snap it to nice 90-degree angles. And the 'name' tag should be reserved for specific names, it should not be used for descriptions of features. Cheers keep it up
