Finished the bulk surveying of Burgess Hill over the weekend. The town is pretty much complete now as far as basic survey work is concerned. Will consider recovering some of the areas that were originally captured from aerial photos in order to tidy up the line work and pick up other ground features. This can be done over the summer months as time permits.

Restarted work on Burgess Hill, West Sussex after sitting out the winter. I only do fair weather surveying! Mind you, someone else had spotted that Burgess Hill needed doing, so it has spurred me on.

Have worked out how to edit GPX traces before uploading using JOSM. This is useful if your trace contains unnecessary waypoints or nodes, or you've inadvertently identified where you live by leaving the unit switched on from the start.

To alter GPX traces

• Start JOSM
• Click the 'Open' button on the toolbar
• Change the file selector from .OSM to .GPX and locate your GPX file
• When the file displays, right click on the file in the 'Layers' window and select 'Convert to Data Layer' from the context menu.
• Press OK to accept the warning message that pops up.
• The GPX layer is converted to a JOSM editable layer. You can now edit it.
• CAUTION. It is very easy to accidentally move the whole trace out of position by inadvertently selecting all points and dragging.
• Use the 'Select' and 'Delete Nodes' tool to remove portions of the track in bulk, or zoom in and move delete individual nodes as necessary.
• When you have finished, right click on the converted layer in the 'Layers' window and select 'Export to GPX...' from the context menu.
• Give the new file a name and press OK. Set the 'Export options' as you want, or leave. Press the 'Export and Save' button.
• This new GPX trace can be uploaded to OSM.
• The converted layer in JOSM can be deleted.

Went out on my bike and worked my way round Maple Drive estate with GT-31 again, but this time took the camera as well to record street names and other details. Also surveyed all the footpaths on the estate to fill in more details. Surveyed London Road from West Street going north to Fairbridge Way and also the main length of Leylands Road plus some adjoining streets. Will use JOSM to create ways.

Friday 11th PM. Walked the Maple Drive estate with GT-31 to create intitial accurate trace. 12Km of walking was good exercise. Used JOSM for the first time to create ways.

Have purchased a Genie GT-31 data logger. First attempt at creating a GPS trace for Stonefield Way. Uploaded and used Potlatch to create ways etc.

My first attempts at editing! Added some road names and new points of interest around Burgess Hill, West Sussex. Seems quite straight forward using Potlatch. I will have a look tomorrow and see what I've done.
