Open Street Map in print..

Feel free to propose it. The leaflet has been flying off the shelves at the Libraries and visitor information centres.

Using OSM data in the wild

http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidmam/4815063190/ and the adjacent photo in the photostream. I think it was doen in Illustrator - the proofs were in PDF form.

Cycle Paths around the hospital

OK, that makes more sense.
OSM really, really needs a proper ontological model for tags.

Ordnance Survey OpenData

OK. I understand the necessity to not destroy what already exists. However, I'm sitting here looking at Perthshire and Angus and working out how many calories it would take to just trace half the minor roads on the bike in the blank spaces on the map. Integrating OS data would be much faster. Any chance it could be imported on an area by area basis, with appropriate curation tools? JOSM plugin?

O, for the short term, can we use the OS raster maps as a basis for tracing?

Ordnance Survey OpenData

Is the license compatible with importing this into OSM?

A good weekend in Perthshire

Where I am happy that my GPS trace is good then I am quite ruthless. In this case though there were some connections that needed to be sorted and I hadn't logged those. The original author did the final edit and we are both happy that it is the best accuracy that can be obtained at this point in time.

There are a lot of mis-annotated unclassified->tertiary roads though.

Adding historic buildings

You'd have to be damned stupid to enforce a copyright on a reference id to a listed building. It should ahve as much copyright as a road number.

Bridleways

There are issues with labelling paths as bridleways in Scotland following the Land Reform Act. They should be labelled as paths, trails or some such, then add horse into the metadata for access as to label it as a bridleway implies only equestrian access permitted (which is usually not the case).
Check the Scottish 'Paths for ALl' website for more details.

Newtyle now exists

Just south of Newtyle. There is a path along th etop of the old railway line but it was rather late and I was on my road bike so didn't map it last night. I'm hoping the whole line will be opend up as a path from Dundee to Newtyle.

Glen Isla Audax

Great.. I'm gradually filling in the gaps around Dundee and Tayside but it is taking some time.. Good to see some more roads covered there.

Gedling, Nottinghamshire

I've not seen any posts on upgrading JOSM for 0.6. Is there any info out there?

Getting going

Hope you don't mind me tidying up some of the bits from the ground and GPS.
I'm filling in the footpaths bit by bit - certainly getting me out and about the neighbourhood, and up some fiendish (but scenic) hills on the bike.

Getting going

Great.. Tayside was a bit like that and now has some of the blank spaces filled in. And Angus is a bit of an OSM desert. It is a long way on the bike to start filling in all the details.

Edits by users in Iceland

Wow that is such a cool tool!

Heads up about recording tracks with a Garmin Nüvi by car

Thanks for the comments on body position etc. I will have to think seriously about setting a propper bike mounting for the GPS. It has been in my pocket and I do notice a difference when I turn round and return on the same route. As for the top pocket of the back pack- I have it there when I run but it is jumbled with the phone (which records the traces) keys, wallet etc which can't be good for the signal.

Driveways

What value do you see in taking them out? Driveways are features that can help navigate. If they are there, leave them in. If they are wrong, correct them.

Blairgowrie

Ah, it is you who has added most of the road through to Dunkeld then.

I have been slowly working my way out from Dundee, but can only manage so much when a decent run on the bike is 50-60 miles. I've done the roads nearest me - just have to get further afield.

I've been concentrating on getting roads in, and I'll worry about detail later. It's certainly getting me fit.

More Strathmore

Wow - new roads up on Mapnik already. Really great work by the OSM team.

Day Two

Sounds fun.. I've been doing the same, gradually filling in the small paths and so on.

Is it worth it?

I use Trekbuddy http://wiki.trekbuddy.net/index.php/Main_Page on my phone with a little bluetooth device (Qstarz BT818). Works just fine and you can put your own maps on too.
