making tracks

Posted by David Rusling on 1 June 2008 in English.

I managed to bag some of the tracks around Guilden Morden. I'm beginning to realise just how many there are. I think that I've got the common land tracks right now. Next up (assuming the rain stops today) is to get the last couple of residential streets (making sure that I note the names down).

I'm not sure how to tag the roads through the village. Some of the roads leading to the village are tagged as secondary whereas I've tagged them as residential and tertiary. I guess that if they've got numbers (B's I'm guessing), then they're secondary. I'm using Great Shelford as a guide.

highway=trunk: A road, green signs

highway=primary: A road, black and white signs

highway=secondary: B road

highway=tertiary: no road number, but a significant road for getting from place to place, usually with white lines

highway=unclassified: any other minor road except...

highway=residential: small residential road in town or village, used primarily by residents
