There are probably dozens of street names in Washington, DC which are incorrectly named in OSM. Many of these are due to faulty data from the Census Bureau. I have been editing some of these mistakes.
Examples:
- Olive Avenue NW fixed to Olive Street NW
- Dumbarton Avenue NW fixed to Dumbarton Street NW
- Small section of Ohio Drive SW fixed to 23rd Street SW (north of Independence Avenue SW)
A much bigger effort is needed. I will continue to work on some of these issue.

Welcome to OSM, David!

David - how do you see this effort structured? Would rendering a map from current OCTO data and then trace from it be a good idea? Should we dump all street names of DC and compare them to a dump of street names in OCTO data? Is just using the TIGER 2012 layer a good approach?

Your idea of to “dump all street names of DC and compare them to a dump of street names in OCTO data” makes sense. It will be easier review the data outside of OSM.
DDOT (DC DOT) has better data then Tiger 2012.
