Mapbox Satellite

Апублікавана карыстальнікам Derek-S 2 Ліпень 2018 на мове English

I was using the default Bing maps satellite imagery, until I found “Background Settings” (B) on the right toolbar. For Ojai, CA the Mapbox Satellite imagery is much more clear; however, the alignment can be slightly different for roads and buildings, compared with the default Bing maps imagery.

Which imagery is ‘best’ will depend on where you are in the world. And ‘best’ may change depending on what is wanted - most up to date, best resolution or best alignment. You certainly need to use more that one image, best if you look at all of them for each new area so you can asses them and make your own choice.

You can also adjust the imagery offset. At the bottom of the background settings on the toolbar is a tool to adjust the image. Ideally you would have a good reference point to adjust the imagery with. If there are many existing objects mapped, you can use them as a reference. (That doesn’t make the offset correct, just matches what was used before. I would use extreme caution before attempting to move mapped objects to new imagery.)

Make sure to compare with any gps tracks found in the area to determine which imagery might be better aligned. Not to say that gps tracks are necessarily perfect, but, especially if there are several, they may nevertheless give valuable hints.
