Upon preparing my 2008, 2009 DeLorme gps tracks for gpx upload conversion, a total covering my 150k +-miles across the US. I stopped to review the OSM media-wiki for batch instructions because it's been a while. Upon review I got off on a tangent regarding "legal OSM data usage".

Last diary entry got screwed up. Wondering if there a way to UL a couple of POI screen captures. I thought it would be neat to attach some POI pics with my data.

Welp, I've been on hiatus for a while now. Took a big break from driving. I tried to finish my software but there was(is) just too much to accomplish by just one person working on a ->huge<- project. Also need new component sets and Delphi 2007 Architect (major bling). I've been using D7pro and I could get away with D2007Pro but my skills have grown to point of desiring the extra bell and whistles. ECO, UML modeling and other neato stuff I have never got a chance to play with yet. So why does programmer drive a truck? Well.. besides the one or two hours I spend a day (if that) interacting with others I sit and construct the data structures in my mind. When I'm on break I fire up Delphi and code those ideas. Specifically writing trucking software I also get to see and use the very thing I am creating in action also so that is big plus. I was preparing my new equipment, which includes a TC1100 tablet and a BlueAngel(SX66) for doing a little more trucking. While reloading my old recorded GPS data back into Delorme I enabled all my custom made POIs of every where I've been also the GPS tracks from these trucking trips where the basis of my Trucking Across America data that took me forever to convert and upload. I'm hoping the screen shots can be shown all right cause they kinda look thumbnails currently. Anyways retiring my Hp Ze4325us to permanent desktop duty with a new triple fan cooler pad under it. Seems to wanna overheat watching YouTube videos these days. If I run it in under a low power load or with a cooling pad that seems to keep it's temperature down thus not locking up. I bought it brand new and it has done it's job flawlessly. Oh yeah, I still can't decide which BT Logger to get; I'm really leaning towards the solar type that never needs to be plugged in. I think the BT loggers all pretty cool which makes it just a harder decision!!!

Was browsing eBay noticed that there are allot of neat multi functional GPS devices nowadays. I was wondering which one would be most recommended for carrying around when logging with a bulkier LCD display device is not desired. Also thought, would be a greatly ->cheaper<- way of capturing tracks during extreme activities. Activities such as mountain biking, dirt biking, quad riding or some other activity where a conventional costly LCD display model maybe be broken. Guess I'm just gonna have to buy one and and try it.

Biggest point set : Looked breifly at the confirmation emails, seen one that had 62000+ points. (Must have been tired and left laptop on for entire duration of time for that one.)

Converted and Uploaded GPX files will be deleted off my HD, I will continue to archive the GPL origonals as they contain more data then GPX format. Extra data like speed, heading, start and end times, start and end locals etc.. All data collected is now officially public domain. If you see a file I forgot to click public on, please message me. With the help of Stage6.com I find the upload of my converted Delorme GPL tracks bearable. A 1.2 gig of uncompressed raw data upload spanning 3 years
all the while watching Starttrek TNG. Uploading one file at a time is a boring task. I tried to run a java script for a batch upload but there were errors. Wasted enough time just learning what had to be done to my data to donate it.
"Now get it done", I say to myself. I found the comment about not mapping in Chicago pretty funny. How does one get stopped for mapping anyways? I guess if your out walking around holding up a mobile GPS up to your face, then you might get noticed, however most log the streets in their car (could be wrong though).

Hmmm, what can I say, I was a truck driver that did not like getting lost. I got myself a laptop and Delorme Street Atlas 2003. Originally I had no intention of logging GPS tracks, I just wanted to get from point A to B without getting lost. The more I read about the software I was using the more I learned. Later I found out about the logging files and archived them just in case I might need them. With a background in Delphi programming I later started developing a software for truck drivers. Now I am looking at developing a plug-in similar to GPSDrive for my own software. With price of GeoData and GIS tools the way they are, it makes it hard for a independent developer, who is funding all of his projects, to get anything accomplished in a timely manner.
