Thanks for joining up the links! The commit message say you added gates but this commit has no addition of any barrier=gate tags. If you put a node where the path crosses the gate and add the gate tag that would be excellent

I'm trying to find a better diffing tool to remind me exactly what I did here. I believe the node deletions appear as a result of merging point and area features using ID, as I found many features appearing both as a point and as a polygon.
