Upload and reject :-(

Verfasst von Donfritzos am 12. September 2008 in English

The start was a little hard because I found out that if you save tracks on the Garmin device the timestamp is gone. So you only have the chance to export the unsaved track logs. But in this case openstreetmap won’t reject the maps :-)

Hope to get more tracks uploaded in the future :-)

I believe untimestamped tracklogs DO load directly in JOSM. Otherwise there are some tools (gpsbabel does it too) which fake timestamps

You can just add some fake timestamps in with a search and replace using a text editor. OSM doesn't care what the times are so you can just make them the same.
However, it is best not to use "saved" tracks because saving also simplifies the track so you lose a bit of accuracy.

If your GPS has an SD-card then you can set the tracklog to 'overwrite when full' and in the advanced tracklog settings 'write tracklog to SD-card' then you can log continuously until the SD-card is full without fear of losing data.

When you've configured the GPS in this way then there's no need use the 'save tracklog' function on the GPS anymore, this function will also compress the tracklog to 500 points causing data loss.

Devices without SD-card should have the tracklog interval set in such a way that it can track the entire trip. Switching from a 1 sec interval to 2 will double the tip time before the tracklog is full. Also here applies: don't use the 'save' function, it will cause data loss.
