The big Move

Posted by DrMark on 4 October 2009 in English.

Well, I've now moved to the Isle of Wight permanently.

Had a look at 'users near me' - one has done 4 edits, ever, between all of those listed. No help there then I guess...

As the IOW is mostly mapped, I should be able to concentrate on completing stuff - footpaths, shops / attractions / POI's need doing. I bought a bicycle, not just for OSM obviously but it will help.

Back home

Well, that's this years trip abroad done. Back home, I find that Wat Tyler Country park will bear some trips out with the dogs - we split the party last week & I left the GPS with the girls, to get the miniature railway mapped.
Of course, the dogs & I proceeded to get thoroughly lost on the footpaths...
We'll be back! Probably this weekend. Anyone mapping in Basildon?

Botswana

Having driven most of the country now, I find fuel stations are a major consideration - due to being infrequent... Many added.

I've outlined a lot of Gaborone, and done a little detail round the block we're visiting.

A number of extant roads are tagged "interestingly" eg dirt tracks as secondary. If I've tagged it above unclassified it's a proper road!

Editing foreign parts

Gaborone, Botswana - a capital city with 2 roads - until this week :]
I'm not going to get it all done, but it's a decent start - just batting about the place shopping & having tea seems to be getting a fair crack at it. The residential roads are not like home; it's all numbered blocks with guards on gates so I can only do one block, but the connecting roads are fair game - -have decided to mark them at the residential level as the inner zones are very small, but I wonder if named unclassified is nearer correct?

September

Got my CBT & a motorbike :)
Bought Garmin mount for same...
Did a bit round Heathrow this week, got there a bit early to meet a plane, good way to pass 1/2 hour (as opposed to paying Heathrow car-park fees!) Left paper with streetnames out, cleaner threw it as clearly rubbish :(
