Changeset When Comment
44165274 over 8 years ago

Hello there. Please stop mass-deleting things without explanation. If you are interested in adding country-specific names to these disputed regions or commenting on a particular edit, that is fine. But deleting things without any discussion is not helpful to creating dialogue and doesn't let other mappers know why you are doing so. So, if you believe they should not have been added for some reason, then comment on the changeset to attempt starting a discussion. I will be going through edits in this region as well to make sure unauthorized sources aren't being used.
Happy Mapping,

Hi Ema,

Thanks for using OpenStreetMap and Maps.me! I noticed you were adding a lot of points that seem to be related to a bike or other sort of race. Unfortunately, we only map things in OSM that are on the ground and not temporary, as opposed to custom objects. Furthermore, edits through Maps.me aren't even propagated to other people until the next app update.

So, if you want to make a custom map and add this sort of data, I would suggest using a tool like http://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/ that provides the ability to add custom waypoints and share the resulting map with anyone else. If you are interested in using umap, you can access your changesets through the OpenStreetMap website and paste the osmChangeXML url into the umap import window, then select OSM file type to import your currently added data. I'm happy to walk you through that in more detail if you'd like. Feel free to send me a private message if so.

Best,
Ethan aka FTA

機器翻譯。 你好,你改變了許多高速公路的分類。 有什麼原因嗎? 其他地圖製作者試圖通過變更集討論進行聯繫。

Machine translation: Hello, you have changed the classification of many highways. Is there a particular reason? Other mappers have tried to contact you through changeset discussions.

Hi, welcome to OSM! I noticed you joined recently and I hope you have enjoyed editing so far. I was just curious if there is some tool you're using to add buildings around the country. The US is definitely way behind in terms of having buildings on the map, so I wondered if there was something coordinating building tracing additions.

Happy Mapping!

Hi there--any update on this? Was this from some type of import that caused these duplicate buildings?

Howdy!

I recently visited the campus and had a question about tagging on some ways. On osm.org/way/45827831 and osm.org/way/45827845 you marked them as cycleway lane. Based on https://www.mapillary.com/app/?lat=30.611908279999966&lng=-96.34639654&z=17&pKey=76Ac9gRxznS1TQ9dAUBHhw&focus=photo I wasn't able to see a cycleway on these specific ways. What are your thoughts about removing the cycleway lane tags on some of these roads?

Also, I did see there are cycleways straddling the tunnel sides, so I went ahead and mapped those (at least approximately since Bing imagery is out of date).

Awesome! I can't believe I missed that restaurant when I surveyed this area a few months ago :(. Glad to see another Wisconsin mapper in the area, too.

Hi and welcome to OpenStreetMap! I went ahead and reverted your edit because you seem to have added your business in the wrong state--WI instead of AZ. If you have questions about mapping, please let me know!

Awesome, that's one I haven't looked at before so I will check it out! With the popularity of Pokemon Go, walking around a neighborhood holding up a cell phone draws much less attention than a legal pad on a clipboard :). Cheers!

Wow, you surveyed over 500 addresses?! Crazy awesome!! We need to catch up here in Wisconsin...

If you don't mind me asking, what system do you use to keep track of the addresses? I've been playing around with different phone apps, field papers, and digital notepads for address surveying, but just haven't found a solution that satisfies me enough in the ease balance between surveying and later retrieving.

Hello there! Would it be possible to separate out changes that are across the globe into separate changesets? It's difficult for other mappers to know what exactly you changed and where you did when the bounding box is much of the planet. Thanks and Happy Mapping! Ethan aka FTA

Hi, I noticed you placed this business inside of Dollar Tree. To my knowledge, Dollar Tree is the sole occupant of that building and further their address is in the 1700 block. Was this data based on a survey? Best, Ethan aka FTA

Hi again Metehyi,
You haven't provided an alternative source for your data (though you have been editing since my first post), and the data clearly state they are derived from Geonames. Based on internet archive links, Geonames has had the same license since the time of your import. Beyond the links listed above, you can also check out mailing list discussions such as https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk/2007-May/014019.html or the forum http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?pid=361073#p361073. So, unfortunately this data will have to be reverted and redacted as we cannot meet the licensing requirements of Geonames for use of their data.

Best,
Ethan aka FTA with the OSMF DWG

Hallo wieder Metehyi,

Hi, it would be useful to other mappers if you could use somewhat descriptive changeset comments. ''addressing'' unfortunately gives little information about the edits you've made, especially when it seems you're not actually adding any addresses. Here's some more info on the topic: osm.wiki/Good_changeset_comments

Hi, as these areas are under dispute, we display a set of boundaries as the de facto borders not to be changed. You are more than welcome to add name tags corresponding to the language that refers to these items locally. See osm.wiki/Multilingual_names#Shared_boundary_features for more information.
