First diary entry
Дасланы Foomandoonian 14 Верасень 2020 на English. Апошняе абнаўленьне 16 Верасень 2020.What are these diaries for I wonder?
Today was my first proper contribution to OSM. I made over 100 edits using the StreetComplete Android app plus a couple of manual edits using the website. For a while at least, this is going to be a fun excuse to get some exercise.
My plan, I think, is to…
- Learn more about the philosophy behind OSM (I’m interested in the cycle, transport and humanitarian maps)
- Get a bit more familiar with the tools and mapping
- Maybe try to come up with some specific ways to contribute that interest me. I’d like to add more of the BTN BikeShare hubs for starters.
My goal outside OSM is to learn QGIS and more generally how to make maps, for Wikipedia but also for my own personal interest.
We’ll see.

For sharing your thoughts on OSM, for showcasing your achievements, for anything related to maps, …It’s up to you what you use it for.
Welcome! It doesn’t happen often that someone who has been a member for 8 years suddenly becomes active.
It’s pretty much like Wikipedia. Many people just like to gather knowledge, and everyone has their favorite on what is more important. Though in recent years, more and more big tech companies get involved too (Microsoft, Facebook, Apple, …)

Welcome to the activity of OSM (since you are registered from 2012 :d).
Well, even though Diaries may not be a common means of communication (because not many people use/read them), in my opinion it still serves as a good way of direct QnA style for mappers via this website (and therefore the iD editor). Although it may be difficult to find many non-English users to direct some post towards, but it becomes a good archive :d
Yes, “diaries” is referred usually to personal stories/experiments, but in the context of OpenStreetMap it became more of a presentation of propositions/tools/regional updates. Still lovely :d
Like others, I also would describe contribution to OpenStreetMap similar to contributing to Wikipedia. Improving/adding stuff you know and that are useful enough to be mentioned, along with quality-citations wherever possible to ensure that no one will disclaim your words (ok, a bit harsh :P).
