hi emersonveenstra.. Sorry for delay making the correction you requested. Around time of your message I caught Influenza A and pneumonia too. Eventually I got admitted to the hospital. Feeling better now, almost cured. Changeset corrected. Thanks for your OSM insights. Hope you stay well too. :)

RE: ChangeSet 1129908908...
I also corrected number of lanes Forward and backward as you noted were wrong. I'll certainly watch my forwards and backwards more closely. Thanks..

Hi emersonveenstra....
THANKS for your eagle eyes spotting my lane count was off. Initially lane count was pre-populated as 4. I did manage to edit the other lane counts correctly.. But obviously over looked this segment. Now it's corrected to lanes = 7. In the future, I'll triple check my change sets before uploading. Thanks again for catching this.

Hi emersonveenstra
Thanks for spotting my typo.
Made correction you noticed:
Tag: [ turn:lanes = slight_right]
Changeset: 158576122

Now this exit should be good.
I also updated my notes as a reminder.

My sincere thanks.
take care..

P.S. for emersonveenstra:
At your convenience and if not too much trouble.. Can you check my discussion started at

Changeset: 158476611

That will help keep topic and thread relevant for edit I made there.

Thanks in advance.

Hi emersonveenstra..
Hope you saw my reference to start a discussion on this ChangeSet. Your earlier instructions were 100% correct. I took your lead and found OSM instructions about "Lane assist/Examples/Motorway exit"

osm.wiki/Lane_assist/Examples/Motorway_exit

Of the 3 motorway phases I added a node and made a split to create the #2 phase.

The example said to change lane to 3 and add Tag: turn:lanes=none|none|slight_rightturn

Destination Tag was already present on the off ramp.

I would like to add a Destination to the far right lane of the #2 phase. But OSM guide didn't mention that.

I hope this edit on phase #2 section before the exit junction is picked up by my GPS App. I'll try to return after app updates their maps and share if this edit helped provide more advanced turn notice from my GPS App.

Appreciate your help..
I should be good to go with future edits.

Hi again emersonveenstra:
Thanks for your helpful reply and suggestions. The app I use called Magic Earth Navigation seems to get turn by turn instructions ok on surface streets. Most minor surface streets don't have turn:lanes or destination:lanes assigned. It dawned on me the spoken turn instructions on Hwy's seemed to match about the same advance distance on surface streets. however traveling at hwy speed the reaction time is reduced. That could be a bug but more likely it just uses the same data point regarding road junctions Your suggestion to use turn:lanes and "destination:lanes" does sound interesting. I'll try using that on a test hwy exit and wait for M.E. Nav app to update their app maps. Fortunately this app makes updates to their app and maps every couple of months or quarterly. Also I'll try passing this info onto their support desk. Getting a reply from them may be 50/50 or less.
I'm glad my revised edit now appears to be OK.
Good Luck..!

P.S.S.. After making Changeset 158446514 - I looked closer at my edit and adjusted it slightly to coincide with were the "V" white line is located. I believe that is where the physical lane separation begins. I hope now I have gotten it right.

158360924 9 months ago

P.S. I made Changeset: 158446514 [[REVERTED prior edit back to near original location for South bound I-96 / Fulton St EXIT Junction]]]].

Please let me know if this matches what is preferred.
Junction is moved closer to the physical separation.

Hi emersonveenstra..
I just saw your comment. I was off-line a couple days. It appears you or someone else changed my edit back. I would have cooperated making the change back myself if I had seen it in time.

I see your point that mapping should be close to physical separation. My logic for moving the exit junction further back was because of the Solid White Line separating the Exit lane from the South Bound lanes. A Dotted White line proceeds a Solid White Line. The Dotted white line signifies a Solid White Line for an exit is approaching. And during the Dotted White Line stretch drivers are encouraged to decide their lane if they choose to Exit or not to Exit. When the Solid White Line appears, though technically possible to move Left over the Solid White Lane, it is also "discouraged" from doing that. Likewise it is not legal to enter an exit lane bound by a solid white lane just to pass vehicles proceeding on the highway and cross left over the Solid White Line again. As for moving Right across a Solid White Line to enter the Exit Lane and remain there, that is allowed if not cutting someone off already in the Exit Lane.

It is encouraged to be in the Exit Lane during the Dotted Line phase or as the early Solid White Line begins. That usually coincides where the Green Hwy Exit Signage directs drivers to be in the proper lane to take the Exit.

I defer to your experience as I am relatively new on OSM. However, many navigation devices rely on OSM for their base map trip plotting. It simply is frustrating when OSM based GPS App's say: "Take the Exit" just as the physical separation occurs.. and it is physically impossible to take that exit.

A Solid White Line signifies a lane once in. to be "discouraged" from crossing. Though not physically impossible to cross but "discouraged" from doing that.

I see your point about Physical Separation. However from a Navigational accurate standpoint.. Directing a driver to the Solid White Line Exit Lane when the Solid White Line first appears is more Functionally accurate and safer from a Navigational standpoint.

Physical Separation vs Navigational Accuracy directing drivers into their Exit Lane with enough advanced notice I'm sure would make for a good discussion.

For now I guess I'll return to just adding or editing posted speed limits. That is something I have become more familiar with over time.

Thanks again on your comment re: my exit junction edit. With every comment I learn a little more.

Update: added "mph" to speed limit on both sections of Eastern Near 44th St.. It should be all set now. Thanks again.. emersonveenstra for spotting the missing speed units.

Thanks.. emersonveenstra
I really appreciate your looking over my change set.. I'll add "mph' to the two sections you mentioned. I should get to that within next 24 hours.
Thanks again.. Happy trails and mapping on all your updates too. :)

Att: emersonveenstra...!
YES, my changing "lanes" from 4 to 3 was by accident. Thanks for noticing that error. I re-edited the entry today. :)
Thanks for letting me know..
