162530868 | 5 months ago | hi emersonveenstra.. Sorry for delay making the correction you requested. Around time of your message I caught Influenza A and pneumonia too. Eventually I got admitted to the hospital. Feeling better now, almost cured. Changeset corrected. Thanks for your OSM insights. Hope you stay well too. :) |

Changeset: 158476611 That will help keep topic and thread relevant for edit I made there. Thanks in advance. |
158476611 | 9 months ago | Hi emersonveenstra..
osm.wiki/Lane_assist/Examples/Motorway_exit Of the 3 motorway phases I added a node and made a split to create the #2 phase. The example said to change lane to 3 and add Tag: turn:lanes=none|none|slight_rightturn Destination Tag was already present on the off ramp. I would like to add a Destination to the far right lane of the #2 phase. But OSM guide didn't mention that. I hope this edit on phase #2 section before the exit junction is picked up by my GPS App. I'll try to return after app updates their maps and share if this edit helped provide more advanced turn notice from my GPS App. Appreciate your help..

158360924 | 9 months ago | P.S.S.. After making Changeset 158446514 - I looked closer at my edit and adjusted it slightly to coincide with were the "V" white line is located. I believe that is where the physical lane separation begins. I hope now I have gotten it right. |
158360924 | 9 months ago | P.S. I made Changeset: 158446514 [[REVERTED prior edit back to near original location for South bound I-96 / Fulton St EXIT Junction]]]]. Please let me know if this matches what is preferred.

158360924 | 9 months ago | Hi emersonveenstra..
I see your point that mapping should be close to physical separation. My logic for moving the exit junction further back was because of the Solid White Line separating the Exit lane from the South Bound lanes. A Dotted White line proceeds a Solid White Line. The Dotted white line signifies a Solid White Line for an exit is approaching. And during the Dotted White Line stretch drivers are encouraged to decide their lane if they choose to Exit or not to Exit. When the Solid White Line appears, though technically possible to move Left over the Solid White Lane, it is also "discouraged" from doing that. Likewise it is not legal to enter an exit lane bound by a solid white lane just to pass vehicles proceeding on the highway and cross left over the Solid White Line again. As for moving Right across a Solid White Line to enter the Exit Lane and remain there, that is allowed if not cutting someone off already in the Exit Lane. It is encouraged to be in the Exit Lane during the Dotted Line phase or as the early Solid White Line begins. That usually coincides where the Green Hwy Exit Signage directs drivers to be in the proper lane to take the Exit. I defer to your experience as I am relatively new on OSM. However, many navigation devices rely on OSM for their base map trip plotting. It simply is frustrating when OSM based GPS App's say: "Take the Exit" just as the physical separation occurs.. and it is physically impossible to take that exit. A Solid White Line signifies a lane once in. to be "discouraged" from crossing. Though not physically impossible to cross but "discouraged" from doing that. I see your point about Physical Separation. However from a Navigational accurate standpoint.. Directing a driver to the Solid White Line Exit Lane when the Solid White Line first appears is more Functionally accurate and safer from a Navigational standpoint. Physical Separation vs Navigational Accuracy directing drivers into their Exit Lane with enough advanced notice I'm sure would make for a good discussion. For now I guess I'll return to just adding or editing posted speed limits. That is something I have become more familiar with over time. Thanks again on your comment re: my exit junction edit. With every comment I learn a little more. |
