Yes , a trace is not a way ...
You have to edit the map adding ways according to your trace ...

thanks - i converted the trace to a road using the editor. still not visible on the map!

The main map is updated every Wednesday, so you'll have to wait for a week.

Or if you are a bit impatient use osmarender as renderengine. Its updated more quickly.
