I look for a map service, that can visualize how far I can get in a given time by a selected transport. I think I’ve seen something like that online, but can’t find it again. Any hint?

What you are looking for is an “isochrone map”. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isochrone_map
Also osm.wiki/Isochrone That page has a links to some OSM based examples.

maybe you can use “Accessibility Analysis” by http://www.openrouteservice.org (“Calculates reachable regions in given time”)
