Here you can download videos of the talks. Sadly no free and open-source video formats, but that's understandable. :)
The mp4/H264 ones lack audio though, did someone forget to mux?

I think your link points to the video archive of the SOTM 2008, not 2009. :-) I'm not yet aware of the video archive for SOTM 2009.

Most existing infrastructure, hardware and software is made for MPEG4 or WMV. Thus Ogg Theora would have been an extra effort.

Contributing to OSM is ‘extra effort’ for just a bit more freedom wrt data access, so I have to wonder why people who are pro- one, but not pro- the other.
