I deleted it, but please be more careful in future

Why is a bunch of this changeset in the ocean? Is this an import gone wrong?

90456769 almost 5 years ago

You accidentally touched this road in your changeset

osm.org/way/557003371

That's why this box is so huge

Did you mean to add a fence tag to this fast food restaurant in the Philippines?

Your changesets look good, but a brief description of what you're doing would be much appreciated. Even something as simple as "Updated parking, added building"

Thanks

This shows your changeset, there's a bunch of stuff done in India. Weird

There's also a bunch of changes in India in this changeset. What was the intention with those?

Hi! Welcome to OpenStreetMap!

First, simple quible, but it's easier to double check changesets if you keep them local. More than enough stuff in any one location for that.

Second, when moving building outlines like you did on Kiritimati it's good to go through the background images (press B to bring up the menu). Sometimes they'll be matched to one dataset but not another, not all the datasets are aligned properly.

Anyway, happy mapping :)

Nice to see more people doing houses around here, really is so much to be done :)

I think it's just GNIS being GNIS. So many objects in that database that are miles away from where they belong. I was just wondering if there was a source beyond GNIS since you merged the point with a building ^^"

I tried looking up the street address and got nothing, search for Bethel Missionary Baptist Church instead, it's some distance away. I'll move it to where it's supposed to be. That is a useful resource though, hopefully will make finding other errant GNIS churches easier to find

53749025 over 5 years ago

I'm not talking about that one, that's Epiphany Baptist Church. I'm talking about this one

osm.org/way/540241101

Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, the church directly to the East

53749025 over 5 years ago

What's your source for Bethel Missionary Baptist Church? It just looks like an ordinary house and the Duval Property map (http://maps.coj.net/DuvalProperty/) lists it being owned by an individual

"vast swathes of incorrect data still needs to be tracked down and corrected"
Haha. Yeah.

The article mentions places no longer existing, though also sometimes GNIS just has them in the wrong location and the feature does exist, just anywhere up to a few miles away

781903 over 5 years ago

For anyone coming across this changeset, the source is probably GNIS

The bing aerial imagery is more up to date here. You can use control-shift-B/cmd-shift-B to open the background panel and that can tell you when the imagery is from

The Esri is from February 2017, Bing from December 2019

If you ever come back to mapping buildings again, the square function iD is super helpful. You can right click on a building and hit the 3rd option down, it squares all the corners for you for tidier buildings. Can be a bit finicky with complicated buildings, but usually very helpful

Where is this footpath? All I see is road

77449296 over 5 years ago

What did you used to calibrate your offset whilst mapping Kaho'olawe Highway 1? Changeset says you used Bing and GPS traces but I see no GPS traces on this island and the alignment doesn't match the imagery
