Summer 2017 - notes

Опубліковано учасником HubMiner 19 Липня 2017, мова: English

I discovered a new source of data to be added to OSM: notes.

Presumably notes are mostly created out on the field by busy bees with smartphone applications. I created a few notes to highlight areas that need a lot of work.

Helpfully, there is a way to get RSS for all notes in a given area, I will be trying that with RSS reader.

Notes, here I come. Time to go to bed.

OSM notes can be added by people on the website, and some apps make use of notes (Maps.me creates a note when a user says a POI doesn’t exist anymore). It’s good to clear through the notes in your local area to stay on top of things.

My view;

Fixmes are things that need to be done … and need fixing soon.

Notes are things that need to be done - not high priority. Notes can be made by ‘armchair’ mappers who cannot identify what is on the ground to correctly map a feature detail.

Comments are things that don’t ‘need to be done’ but are information that help fellow mappers to understand the mapping.

@Warin61 problem with using fixme for something that needs fixing soon is they aren’t as visible as notes. You need to use something like Osmose, keepright etc. for fixmes rather than the simple OSM website notes interface and you can keep an eye on them in your area with an RSS feed.
