I liked the idea of creating localised notes with pictures, using twitter was a strong idea. This tool has been publicized on the talk-fr list, and is starting to get used here (in France).
I am now trying to close notes created recently in France. And for most of them, I just feel helpless. Why? The location of the element cannot be found. The gps location is too imprecise, and there often is no hint at the direction of the photograph… Two examples:
-
osm.org/note/169688 : Which building may it be?
-
osm.org/note/169816 : No building in the background, where is this spot?
I propose no solution. I may encourage the photographers to think of integrating location elements on the picture. I may wonder in the picture direction could somehow be retrieved…

I think this particular user uses @osmthis as a personal notepad, not necessarily expecting others to fix a bug in the map. He will certainly come back later to properly map from his photos and memory.

I’m rather doubtful about that… Why send it to twitter rather than keeping them locally and opening them with JOSM, getting more info that way? Besides, quoting the wiki (a part that I strongly agree with): Don’t use it to put your personal notes here.

I mostly use it to add details to existing POIs. This works perfectly.
