Tagging is somewhat inconsistent for campus paths. We generally use highway=path in most parts of campus for non-sidewalks/links/crossings, but for the NE section of campus we use highway=footway. Looking on wiki/forums it seems like there's not a definite answer here and mostly down to local preference. I don't think it really matters which we use, but consistency would be nice.
