Hi, thank you for your contributions to bike infrastructure in Toronto. Solid dedication to precision!

I noticed one thing. You mapped plain painted bike lanes as separate ways, for example on Sherbourne north of Bloor, and in an earlier change on Dundas east of Broadview. Paint-only bike lanes, where there isn't a physical separation from the car lanes, should not be mapped as separate ways in OSM. The bike lane information is mapped on the street way itself. This is similar to how car lanes are mapped. Could you change this, please?

Can you also confirm if you have seen my earlier comments on your note near Bloor and Yonge? osm.org/note/3498476

Thanks,
Jarek

Note that OSM meaning of expressway=yes differs from the Ontario English meaning. See osm.wiki/Key:expressway

Hi there! I saw that you used max_age:advisory tag on a playground and I'm just curious how you decided on this tag. Did you find it via Taginfo? Or just going by logic, since max_age tag is documented but playgrounds have "designed for" ages?

I ask because I haven't seen anyone else use max_age:advisory tags so far, so I'm really curious and interested to see someone else use it!

Changeset message continued: It appears there is currently only one bridge in place. But having 2 bridges mapped (which is the before-construction configuration and apparently also the target post-construction configuration) is substantially less wrong than having no bridges mapped. A Cambridge editor with knowledge of how this is laid out right now could add the current layout, but do so with commitment that they will update it again once construction finishes.

ah if you're a local we should hang out sometime!

120101768 over 3 years ago

Hello,

Please do not add points without local knowledge and/or in-person survey. You added Bobacha in wrong location, at a time when it was not yet open. It soft-opened yesterday at 1660 Queen W. I fixed it in osm.org/changeset/120432576

116560398 over 3 years ago

This is an imaginary development. It does not exist in real life and there is no plan to build it. Please do not add suggested future developments to OpenStreetMap. I have reverted this change in changesets osm.org/changeset/116846559 and osm.org/changeset/116846585

Oh sorry my bad! That must have been a work-in-progress note to myself to route it via the slow tracks through Toronto since it makes all stops and gets overtaken - I must have missed removing it when uploading.

I can remove the fixme tag, or if you're working on it now, feel free to remove it along with your changes.

109330078 over 3 years ago

No problem! ... but this was 5 months ago so I don't remember adding a fixme. I went through all the ways and relations touched by this changeset and I don't see a fixme on any of them - I might have missed it. Which way or relation were you asking about?

Hello,

Thank you for your edits in this area, they are appreciated!

We noticed that this change made Hanlon Expressway a "motorway" in OSM. In Ontario, this tag is used for freeways, with no at-grade intersections. Roads with at-grade intersections, including upgraded ones like the Hanlon here or the Veterans Memorial in London, are normally highway=trunk. Are you opposed to having Hanlon changed back to highway=trunk?

Thanks,
Jarek

Hello, thank you for the updates on the construction here, they are very appreciated.

For your request for review, I would have a few suggestions in general:

- ramps that are temporary during the construction phase should be highway=motorway_link, rather than highway=construction. This is because routers won't map a route via highway=construction.

- ramps that are closed more or less temporarily might be better off set as highway=construction plus construction=motorway_link, rather than with motor_vehicle=no. I find that way it's easier to see what's currently closed. However, there isn't a good way of doing this with a schedule like "will close on December 2nd" - for adding a future closure, your tag "motor_vehicle=conditional=no @ (2021 December 2-2023 December 1)" looked good

- ramps that are closed permanently can be deleted as you did, or can be changed from highway=motorway_link to demolished:highway=motorway_link. The second option keeps the old ramp history for benefit of anyone who might be unfamiliar with the ongoing construction and sees the now-removed ramps on aerial/satellite imagery, but won't be used for routing

- you can also use "note" tags to put in a note to let other editors that this ramp or this routing is temporary during interchange reconstruction.

I made some updates in osm.org/changeset/115010990 but overall this was great.

Feel free to ask me if you have any other questions at any point of the reconstruction here or elsewhere.

Cheers,
Jarek

Hello, thank you for your edits in this area, the alignment improvements are much appreciated!

I noticed in https://overpass-api.de/achavi/?changeset=112564262 you moved the Dundas West subway platforms to be roughly centered under the namesake street. That's not actually accurate, they are mostly east of the street. See osm.org/changeset/109959238 for explanations. I moved them into a slightly more proper position in osm.org/changeset/114383828 .

Hello, thanks for updating the Dundas/407 P&R! As currently mapped, its parking lot is not reachable for cars because of access=private tags on the roadways that connect it to the driveway out to Dundas. If you're familiar with the area, could you take a look at the roadways and adjust the access tags as needed?

110884050 almost 4 years ago

Gardiner connects to the DVP. It's the continuation to east (locally known as the "Logan ramps" or "Logan exit") that is being demolished. That is correctly represented on the map.

110884050 almost 4 years ago

Hello Andrew, thank you for your updates in the GTA. This edit ended up making the entire Gardiner between Yonge and DVP mapped as closed for construction, which is not the case. Did this happen accidentally?

Hello all,

I found this discussion while trying to quickly find out which edit might have broken Highway 401 routing near Mississauga Road. As you seem to be quite experienced OSM contributors, can you point me to a more reliable way of quickly checking the edit history of a area than the "History" tab on openstreetmap.org?

Thank you,
Jarek

Main source is the fact that the elevator near the 40 stop goes to eastbound platform, and to very end of it at that. From survey we know platform length is somewhat more than 6-car T1 train which is 138 m. Distance between platforms must be at least a little more than 2 train widths.

I realize the new alignment of the subway track doesn't really match the portal just to west nor currently mapped alignment to east, but I do know where that elevator is. In any case, the subway track is missing some details, like the centre track between Ossington and Christie, so we know it's not extremely accurate.
