Here it is - my first map for Garmin devices specially styled for the average hiker: www.gpxtour.com/all/page/getmap/

The map isn’t cut along any frontier - instead it covers the region from Koblenz in the north, Passau in the east, Lausanne in the south and Luxembourg in the west. It style also takes care about the offline usage with a tool like QLandkarte GT, contains separated and switchable contour lines, and is not routable.

From time to time the style will be refined and the map updated. I hope to do that once a month. Have fun :)

Last weekend I’ve toke a walk in a forest around here (http://www.gpxtour.com/all/tour/103/). Everything was covered with snow, and as the sun came around too, it was enchanting. But to my surprise my Garmin showed me many beaches nearby:

“Can’t be!”, I thought. I have to drive at least 600km to reach a beach (german word for “beach” in screenshot: “Strand”). At home I’ve opened JOSM and found out: Someone tagged every sand bunker of a golf course as “nature=beach” and “note=sand bunker” ;)

Zwar ist die Waldregion Schönbuch wahrlich gut und umfassend bei OSM kartografiert, doch es ist schon erstaunlich, wie viele Korrekturen man nach ein paar Kilometern wandern am Kartenmaterial vornehmen kann…
